rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">DaVinci Resolve<\/a>, its free colour grading, editing and post-production software, and DaVinci Resolve Studio, its $295 commercial edition.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forum.blackmagicdesign.com\/viewtopic.php?f=21&amp;t=218667\" target=\"_blank\">DaVinci Resolve Studio 20.0<\/a> is a major release, adding over 100 new tools, including a set of new AI-powered features for video editing and audio production.<\/p>\n<p>The update \u2013 currently available in public beta \u2013 is free to all existing users.<\/p>\n<p>Below, we\u2019ve rounded up the key features for colorists and effects artists, including a new Chroma Warp tool, a new deep compositing toolset, and full support for multi-layer EXRs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"full-width\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cgchannel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/250406_Fusion20_FusionStudio20_ChromaWarp.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"480\" Warp tool makes it possible to create looks with intuitive gesture controls.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Color page: New Chroma Warp, plus updates to the Resolve FX Warper and Magic Mask<\/strong><br \/>For grading, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackmagicdesign.com\/products\/davinciresolve\/color\" target=\"_blank\">Color page<\/a>\u2018s Color Warper gets a new Chroma Warp tool.<\/p>\n<p>It is designed to create looks intuitively, with users selecting a color in the viewer, and dragging to adjust its hue and saturation simultaneously.<\/p>\n<p>Among the existing tools, the Resolve FX Warper effect gets a new Curves Warp mode, which creates a custom polygon with spline points for finer control when warping images.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.premiumbeat.com\/blog\/resolve-17-magic-mask-tool\/\" target=\"_blank\">Magic Mask<\/a>, DaVinci Resolve\u2019s AI-based feature for generating mattes, has been updated, and now operates in a single mode for both people and objects.<\/p>\n<p>Workflow is also now more precise, with users now placing points to make selections, then using the paint tools to include or exclude surrounding regions of the image.<\/p>\n<p>Another key AI-based feature, the Resolve FX Depth Map effect, which automatically generates depth mattes, has been updated to improve speed and accuracy.<\/p>\n<p>For color management across a pipeline, the software has been updated to <a href=\"https:\/\/acescentral.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">ACES 2.0<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/opencolorio.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">OpenColorIO<\/a> is supported as Resolve FX.<\/p>\n<p class=\"full-width\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cgchannel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/250406_Fusion20_FusionStudio20_DeepCompositing.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"480\" class=\"alignleft size-full artists get deep compositing support in the integrated Fusion compositing toolset.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fusion: new deep compositing toolset<\/strong><br \/>For compositing and effects work, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackmagicdesign.com\/products\/davinciresolve\/fusion\" target=\"_blank\">Fusion page<\/a> gets support for deep compositing.<\/p>\n<p>Deep compositing, long supported in more VFX-focused apps <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.foundry.com\/nuke\/content\/comp_environment\/deep\/deep_compositing.html\" target=\"_blank\">like Nuke<\/a>, makes use of depth data encoded in image formats like <a href=\"https:\/\/openexr.com\/en\/latest\/InterpretingDeepPixels.html\" target=\"_blank\">OpenEXR<\/a> to control object visibility.<\/p>\n<p>It simplifies the process of generating and managing holdouts, and generates fewer visual artifacts, particularly when working with motion blur or environment fog.<\/p>\n<p>Deep images can now be viewed in the Fusion viewer or the 3D view, and there is a new set of nodes to merge, transform, resize, crop, recolor and generate holdouts.<\/p>\n<p>It is also possible to render deep images from the 3D environment, and export them as deep EXRs via the Fusion saver node.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fusion: new vector warping toolset, plus support for 180 VR and multi-layer workflows<\/strong><br \/>Other new features in the Fusion page include a new optical-flow-based vector warping toolset, for image patching and cleanup, and for effects like digital makeup.<\/p>\n<p>There is also a new 360\u00b0 Dome Light for environment lighting, and support for 180 VR, with a number of key tools updated to support 180\u00b0 workflows.<\/p>\n<p>Pipeline improvements include full multi-layer workflows, with all of Fusion\u2019s nodes now able to access each layer within multi-layer EXR or PSD files.<\/p>\n<p>Fusion also now natively supports Cryptomatte ID matte data in EXR files.<\/p>\n<p>We aim to cover the new features on the Fusion Page \u2013 and in Fusion Studio, Blackmagic Design\u2019s standalone compositing app \u2013 in a separate story, so check back for more details.<\/p>\n<p class=\"full-width\"><img loading=\"lazy\" 960px\"\/><\/p>\n<p><em>IntelliScript automatically generates an edit timeline matching a user-provided script.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Other toolsets: lots of new AI features for video editing and audio production<\/strong><br \/>DaVinci Resolve Studio 20.0 also features a lot of new AI features powered by the software\u2019s Neural Engine, although primarily in the video editing and audio production toolsets.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackmagicdesign.com\/products\/davinciresolve\/cut\" target=\"_blank\">Cut<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackmagicdesign.com\/products\/davinciresolve\/edit\" target=\"_blank\">Edit<\/a> pages get new AI tools for automatically creating edit timelines matching a user-provided script; generating animated subtitles; editing or extending music to match clip length; and matching tone, level and reverberance for dialogue.<\/p>\n<p>There are also new tools for recording new voiceovers during editing to match an edit.<\/p>\n<p>Workflow improvements include a dedicated curve view for keyframe editing; plus a new MultiText tool and updates to the Text+ tool for better control of the layout of on-screen text.<\/p>\n<p>For audio post work, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackmagicdesign.com\/products\/davinciresolve\/fairlight\" target=\"_blank\">Fairlight<\/a> page gets new AI features for removing silences from raw footage, and automatically balancing an audio mix.<\/p>\n<p>We don\u2019t cover video or audio editing on CG Channel, but you can find a complete list of changes via the links at the foot of the story.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Codec and format support<\/strong><br \/>Other key changes include native support for ProRes encoding on Windows and Linux systems as well as macOS.<\/p>\n<p>MV-HEVC encoding is now supported on systems with NVIDIA GPUs, and H.265 4:2:2 encoding and decoding are GPU-accelerated on NVIDIA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cgchannel.com\/?s=blackwell&amp;x=0&amp;y=0\" target=\"_blank\">new Blackwell GPUs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Again, you can find a full list of changes to codec and platform support via the features include generative AI-based background extension.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Future updates: new toolsets for immersive video and AI background generation<\/strong><br \/>Blackmagic Design also announced two upcoming features not present in the initial beta.<\/p>\n<p>Artists creating mixed reality content will get a new toolset for ingesting, editing and delivering immersive video for Apple\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/apple-vision-pro\/\" target=\"_blank\">Vision Pro<\/a> headset.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be a new generative AI feature, Resolve FX AI Set Extender, available via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackmagicdesign.com\/products\/blackmagiccloudstore\" target=\"_blank\">Blackmagic Cloud<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>More details will be announced later this year, but Blackmagic says that it will enable users to generate new backgrounds for shots by entering simple text prompts.<\/p>\n<p>The video above shows a range of use cases, including extending or adding objects to existing footage, and generating a complete new background behind a foreground object.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Price, system requirements and release date<\/strong><br \/>DaVinci Resolve 20.0 and DaVinci Resolve Studio 20.0 are available in beta for Windows 10+, Rocky Linux 8.6, and macOS 14.0+.<\/p>\n<p>Blackmagic Design hasn\u2019t announced a final release date for the updates, which are free to existing users.<\/p>\n<p>New perpetual licenses of the base edition are free; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackmagicdesign.com\/products\/davinciresolve\/studio\" target=\"_blank\">Studio edition<\/a>, which adds AI features, stereoscopic 3D tools, and HDR grading, costs $295.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackmagicdesign.com\/support\/readme\/bb72012583234d4bbea9f1ca54acbcb5\"
