The makers of\u00a0York Gin<\/a>\u00a0have opened a new distillery with its own gin school inside one of their ancient city\u2019s top city centre hotels.<\/p>\n

York Distillery is located within the city\u2019s ancient city walls at\u00a0Middleton\u2019s Hotel<\/a>\u00a0where new spirits will be developed to complement the existing York Gin range.<\/p>\n

The boutique distillery also offers lessons in gin tasting and gin making with tutors educated at the WSET (Wine & Spirits Education Trust).<\/p>\n

Hotel gardeners are developing a botanical garden, allowing students to pick fresh botanicals before making their own gin.\u00a0<\/p>\n

York Distillery\u2019s Business Development Manager, Becky Tatham, said: \u2018York Gin opened the city\u2019s first gin distillery years ago- and we\u2019ve always made all our gins in York. Everything we do is of the very highest quality \u2013 so the beautiful Middleton\u2019s Hotel is the perfect partner for us.<\/p>\n

\u2018We\u2019re delighted and excited to open this beautiful boutique distillery within the city walls. Shining copper stills of all sizes and the scientific distillery paraphernalia complement the elegantly-decorated space perfectly. It\u2019s a spirit lover\u2019s happy place!\u2019<\/p>\n

Becky continued: \u2018We\u2019re proud to represent York and we take our responsibility to our city very seriously. York Distillery will be a venue to enjoy brilliant experiences with friends, colleagues or as a couple. Some of York\u2019s best creatives have been instrumental in designing the distillery \u2013 with York woodworkers, PurePallets, creating beautiful bespoke pieces and GEM Construction helping to make the very most of this unusual space.\u2019<\/p>\n

Middleton\u2019s Hotel is owned by\u00a0Daniel Thwaites<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 which boasts a unique collection of award-winning hotels, inns and pubs across England.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the new distillery, Oliver Stott, General Manager at Middleton\u2019s Hotel, said: \u2018We\u2019re proud to welcome the new York Distillery to Middleton\u2019s and we look forward to continuing our long-term relationship with the company. This is not only a fantastic way to bring a new lease of life to a disused space, but it\u2019s another wonderful experience our guests can choose to enjoy as part of their stay.\u2019<\/p>\n

The York Gin range has won multiple gold medals at the world\u2019s top spirits competitions.<\/p>\n

York Distillery and York Gin are both owned by York Drinks. Director Natalie Hall said: \u2018York Distillery is where the magic happens \u2013 as new flavour combinations are imagined and created by our talented distillers.<\/p>\n

\u2018Our main distillery and warehouse in the Murton area of the City of York will continue to undertake the larger-scale distilling activities along with bottling, labelling and packing. This is also where our online operations will continue. Smaller distillations will happen at York Distillery, where guests will be able to join the team and learn about distillation while enjoying a cocktail.\u2019<\/p>\n

Natalie added: \u2018We want York Distillery to help cement York\u2019s reputation as one of the UK\u2019s capitals of taste.<\/p>\n
