{"id":173723,"date":"2025-04-06T13:45:47","date_gmt":"2025-04-06T13:45:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/alabama\/alabama-house-oks-3-7-billion-general-fund-budget\/"},"modified":"2025-04-06T13:45:47","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T13:45:47","slug":"alabama-house-oks-3-7-billion-general-fund-budget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=173723","title":{"rendered":"Alabama House OKs $3.7 billion General Fund Budget"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Alabama House of Representatives has passed the 2026 General Fund Budget and its supplemental appropriation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter, R-Rainsville, issued the following statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIt\u2019s no coincidence that the state is in a position to meet its financial commitments and make meaningful investments while carrying little to no debt year-over-year,\u201d\u00a0said Speaker Ledbetter. \u201cThis achievement is the result of 16 years of conservative governance focused on ensuring every dollar of taxpayer money is spent effectively and responsibly. Our budgeting process is calculated, transparent, and guided by the principle of not spending every dollar that comes in. I commend Rep. Reynolds and the members of the House for their work in developing the state\u2019s financial plan for 2026 and setting Alabama up for continued success.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Key General Fund Budget Highlights include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Site Evaluation Economic Development Strategy Program \u2013 $18 million<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">ALEA \u2013 $2.5 million for Capitol Police and $3 million for the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Department of Mental Health \u2013 $244,467,967, plus $8 million increase for community mental health beds<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Airport Development Grants \u2013 increased by $7.5 million to $15 million<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Port of Mobile \u2013 increased to $3 million<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Rep. Rex Reynolds, R-Huntsville, who chairs the House Ways and Means General Fund Committee, touted the Legislature\u2019s streak of passing balanced budgets and stressed the importance of funding government with sustainability in mind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWith the passage of the 2026 General Fund Budget, Alabama is extending its 16-year streak of funding government in a responsible, cost-effective manner, ensuring our state remains on solid financial footing,\u201d\u00a0said Rep. Reynolds. \u201cSustainability is always my priority when developing the budget\u2014we must make decisions that the state can afford not only now but, in the future, as well. Hall\u00a0\u2013 Coalition Against Domestic Violence, appropriation, operations plan an audited financial statement required, quarterly and end-of-year reports required.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><b\/><span class=\"s1\"><b>HB183 <\/b>by Rep. Warren\u00a0\u2013 Children First Trust Fund, appropriations from for fiscal year ending September 30, 2026, use of allocation pursuant to Section 41-15B-2.2, Code of Alabama 1975 and this act, tobacco settlement revenues deposited in fund within 30 days of receipt.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><b\/><span class=\"s1\"><b>HB181 <\/b>by Rep. Underwood\u00a0\u2013 Alabama Building Renovation Finance Authority Bill.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><b\/><span class=\"s1\"><b>HB312 <\/b>by Rep. Lee\u00a0\u2013 Hospitals, private hospital assessment and Medicaid funding program extended for fiscal year 2028.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><b\/><span class=\"s1\"><b>HB405 <\/b>by Rep. Blackshear\u00a0\u2013 Nursing facilities, privilege assessments and surcharge on each nursing home bed assessment extended, to August 31, 2028.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><b\/><span class=\"s1\"><b>HB182 <\/b>by Rep. Reynolds\u00a0\u2013 Emergency medical transport providers, assessment period extended.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><b\/><span class=\"s3\"><b>HB460 <\/b>by Rep.
