This VERY high octane sample of Canadian Whiskey comes to us from our friend, Josh Mann of First Cut Barrel Company<\/a> and Jews and Booze<\/a>. The whiskey they sent us, which is a Jews and Booze release, is called \u201cThe Alter Kaker\u201d<\/a>. According to the interwebz, that\u2019s Yiddish for \u201cold fart\u201d or \u201cold fogey\u201d. The name makes sense when you do a bit of research about this whiskey\u2026<\/p>\n Here\u2019s what they say about \u201cThe Alter Kaker\u201d on the Jews and Booze website:<\/p>\n Released September, 2023<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cOnly gets better with age!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Age<\/strong>: 22 years, 9 months<\/em> Tasting Notes<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n Nose<\/strong>: Surprisingly delicate given the proof. Vanilla, whipping cream and just a touch of nutmeg are present. While there are suggestions of ethanol, it\u2019s somehow quite subtle and akin to a typical 100 proof whiskey.<\/em><\/p>\n Palate<\/strong>: This one opens with notes of toasted bread and cinnamon. It very quickly explodes with a burst of flavor has no good comparison. It takes a few sips to characterize it though eventually oak and caramel become clear. The back of the palate is obscured by that huge explosion, which persists.<\/em><\/p>\n Finish<\/strong>: Long, intense and fairly classic.<\/em><\/p>\n The above note are written without water or (gasp) ice. When 5 drops per oz were added, notes of cocoa, butterscotch pudding and soft pretzel become evident.<\/em><\/p>\n For those that like numbers, 171.2 proof translates to 85.6% ABV. That\u2019s a DOUBLE YOWZA in our books! We\u2019re wondering if Josh really likes us or if he\u2019s trying to kill us.
