Happy gift giving, everyone!<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dr. Anne Russon on the <em>Orangutan Jungle School <\/em>Docu-Series and Primate Behavior<\/h2>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.yorku.ca\/arusson\/images\/Anne%20photo%202006%20web.jpg?resize=273%2C344\" alt=\"\" width=\"273\" height=\"344\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Dr. Anne Russon has a background in psychology and developed an interest in studying great ape intelligence after working with chimpanzees. Since 1989, Dr. Russon has been studying intelligence and behavior in ex-captive Bornean orangutans. Her work is focused on conservation efforts for these animals. <\/p>\n<p> Dr. Anne Russon is a Canadian primatologist who is not only the executive director of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Borneo Orangutan Society of Canada (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/orangutan.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Borneo Orangutan Society of Canada<\/a>, but also the author of several books on great apes including <em>Orangutans: Wizards of the Rainforest<\/em>, <em>Reaching into Thought: The Minds of the Great Apes<\/em>, and <em>The Evolution of Thought: Evolution of Great Ape Intelligence<\/em>. She is a professor of psychology at York University in Toronto.  The <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Borneo Orangutan Society of Canada (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/orangutan.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Borneo Orangutan Society of Canada<\/a> is a charity organization which supports the orangutan conservation efforts in Indonesia and Malaysia. Dr. Anne Russon is active on the advisory boards for other orangutan support organizations. This includes <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Alchemy Films (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.alchemyfilms.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Alchemy Films<\/a>, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/orangutan.or.id\/\" target=\"_blank\">Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation<\/a>, the<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" Orangutan Conservancy (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.orangutan.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Orangutan Conservancy<\/a>, and Orangutan Network. She also runs a website called <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Orangutan Sanctuary (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/arusson\/\" target=\"_blank\">Orangutan Sanctuary<\/a>, which is dedicated to providing resources for professionals interested in learning more about orangutan conservation. <\/p>\n<p><em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Orangutan Jungle School (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/orangutanjungleschool.com\/where-to-watch\/\" target=\"_blank\">Orangutan Jungle School<\/a> <\/em>airs Sundays at 8:00 PM on <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Love Nature (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lovenature.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Love Nature<\/a>. The series follows the orangutans attending the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/orangutan.or.id\/\" target=\"_blank\">Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation<\/a>\u2018s (BOSF) school in the Borneo Jungle in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. These orangutans are all orphans who are introduced into this school so they can learn the skills they will need to one day be returned to the wild. Over 300 orangutan students attend BOSF and learn together in age groups from babies, to adolescents, to young adults.
