{"id":168886,"date":"2025-04-02T20:33:28","date_gmt":"2025-04-02T20:33:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/aerospace\/us-approves-5-58b-f-16-jets-sale-to-the-philippines\/"},"modified":"2025-04-02T20:33:28","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T20:33:28","slug":"us-approves-5-58b-f-16-jets-sale-to-the-philippines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=168886","title":{"rendered":"US approves $5.58B F-16 jets sale to the Philippines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The United States has approved the possible sale of 20 F-16 fighter jets to the Philippines valued at $5.58 billion following US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth\u2019s inaugural tour of the Asian region, which included the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>According to the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the Philippines has requested to buy 16 F-16 C Block 70\/72 aircraft and four F-16 D Block 70\/72 aircraft, along with related engines and equipment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a strategic partner that continues to be an important force for political stability, peace, and economic progress in Southeast Asia,\u201d the US State Department said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-leaderboard bn-1\"\/>\n<p>Hegseth, who was in the Philippines from March 27-28, 2025, met with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. and Secretary of National Defense Gilberto Teodoro, Jr., reaffirmed the United States\u2019 alliance with the Philippines amid tensions from China about territorial claims over the West Philippine Sea.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">President <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bongbongmarcos?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@bongbongmarcos<\/a>, thank you for the warm welcome. Our commitment to the U.S.-Philippines alliance remains ironclad, and our two nations will continue to work together to strengthen deterrence in this vital region. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GdLS41nhYE\">pic.twitter.com\/GdLS41nhYE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth (@SecDef) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SecDef\/status\/1905503361807585677?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 28, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to a US Department of Defense (DoD) press release, Hegseth and Teodoro agreed to \u201ctake several bold steps and set a robust agenda for the DoD and the Philippine Department of National Defense (DND) to reestablish deterrence in the Indo-Pacific region and achieve Peace through Strength.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following the US Government\u2019s approval of the fighter jet sale to the Philippines, China warned against \u200b\u200bactions that could \u201cthreaten regional peace\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-leaderboard bn-2\"\/>\n<p>China\u2019s Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun was quoted by Philippine media outlet The Daily Tribune to have said that the Philippines\u2019 security cooperation \u201cshould not target any third party or harm the interests of a third party.
