These particles are classified by size, with sand being the largest and silt being the smallest. However, there are many other implements that provide deeper and <a href=\"https:\/\/modernfarmer.com\/2019\/12\/want-to-increase-yields-maybe-cut-back-on-tillage\/\">less destructive tillage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Running a <strong>subsoiler<\/strong> or <strong>disc ripper<\/strong> will break up any hardpan layers without inverting the soil. Since these implements lift rather than churn, the newly aerated soil is less likely to settle with heavy rains.
