On October 3, Governor Maura Healey appointed Michael T. Caljouw as the new Commissioner of the Massachusetts Division of Insurance (DOI). Starting November 4, 2024, Caljouw will bring over 30 years of experience in insurance law, policy, and regulatory affairs to lead one of the country\u2019s largest insurance markets.<\/p>\n
Public and Private Sector Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n Caljouw has worked in both the public and private sectors, most recently as Vice President for State and Federal Government and Regulatory Affairs at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. His previous roles include Deputy Director, Chief of Staff, and General Counsel at the DOI. Caljouw has also been involved in crafting laws on HMO insolvency and cost containment measures and has overseen insurance rate decisions, mergers, and acquisitions during his public and private career.<\/p>\n Vision for the DOI: Stability and Affordability<\/strong><\/p>\n Governor Healey emphasized that Caljouw\u2019s experience will help ensure fairness, stability, and accessibility in Massachusetts\u2019 insurance markets.
