Bali, Indonesia-based Moonglade Sound<\/strong> welcomes Mixcult<\/strong> boss\u00a0Kirill\u00a0Matveev<\/strong>\u00a0to revisit the\u00a0mixed\u00a0compilation format with the new Transcend\u00a0LP<\/em><\/strong>, comprised of thirteen tracks and coming as a 12\u2019\u2019 release. A 50-minute journey through ethereal sounds,\u00a0TRANSCEND<\/strong>\u00a0by Moonglade Sound<\/strong> is a meticulously curated double-sided compilation,\u00a0mixed\u00a0and compiled by\u00a0Kirill\u00a0Matveev<\/strong>, unveiling a realm of sonic exploration.<\/p>\n Hi! Thank you for your interest in my project!<\/p>\n The thing is, until recently, downtempo, leftfield, and trip-hop music weren\u2019t really part of my DJ profession. Sure, I had some vinyl records in these styles, but I never deliberately searched for this kind of music the way I\u2019ve always done with house and techno.<\/p>\n Then one day, my partners from the creative brand Moonglade<\/strong> suggested that I record something slower and with a broken beat for them. Shortly after that, I got a residency on\u00a0Bloop London Radio<\/strong>\u00a0with the\u00a0Moonglade Sound<\/strong>\u00a0show, where once a month, I curate exactly this kind of music.<\/p>\n I started searching for tracks on\u00a0Bandcamp\u2014this kind of music isn\u2019t often released on vinyl. That\u2019s when I realized I had discovered a whole new world! Very quickly, I figured out that the most effective way to search was by exploring other buyers\u2019 collections. Searching by genre, style, or hashtags takes an insane amount of time.<\/p>\n Since then, I\u2019ve been sharing a link to my\u00a0Bandcamp\u00a0collection everywhere because I want to support labels and artists:\u00a0https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/kirmatveev<\/a>. And it\u2019s working\u2014people actually browse through it and find music that resonates with them.<\/p>\n Two years ago, we had already released a\u00a0Moonglade Sound<\/strong>\u00a0vinyl record\u2014it was mostly a techno release. And then the time came to think about the next one. I really wanted to put out something that reflects the music from our radio show.<\/p>\n At first, it could have just been a standard compilation with pauses between tracks, but that didn\u2019t seem exciting to me. Instead, I wanted to create something for listeners who appreciate DJ culture and long, continuous mixes.<\/p>\n I imagined someone placing the needle at the start of the record, sitting back in their chair, and immersing themselves in my story. That\u2019s when I realized this could be something truly unique.<\/p>\n The last time I heard a mixtape pressed on vinyl was back in the\u00a01980s\u2014that legendary release,\u00a0Stars On 45<\/strong>! Since then, I hadn\u2019t come across anything like it. But what a great format, I thought!<\/p>\n The hardest part was licensing all the tracks in the mix. It took a year and a half. Some artists simply didn\u2019t believe this project would actually come to life. I couldn\u2019t track down a few of them, and because of that, I had to\u00a0redo the second side of the mix\u2014so yes, this isn\u2019t even the first version of the record!<\/p>\n From the moment I bought my first\u00a0techno vinyl\u00a0to the day I released my first\u00a0techno record,\u00a020 years\u00a0had passed. It feels like an eternity, right? But in reality, it wasn\u2019t.<\/p>\n I quickly found my place behind the decks\u2014even if, at\u00a017 years old, I had to carry my own turntables to the gigs I played. Then came years of organizing events, struggling with a lack of knowledge in sound production and mixing.<\/p>\n But I always knew that one day, I would stop circling around music and start producing and releasing it.<\/p>\n To make this happen, I launched my own\u00a0internet radio station, MixCult<\/strong>, which runs\u00a024\/7, streaming\u00a0deep techno, deep house, and electro mixes. Later, I opened another station,\u00a0Spitzer, focused on ambient music.<\/p>\n While running these stations, I was also building an audience through related\u00a0podcasts. When the radio finally took off, I knew the next step was to start releasing music. And I made it happen.<\/p>\n Now, I manage\u00a010 labels\u00a0that release vinyl. And I wouldn\u2019t be surprised if there are even more in the future.<\/p>\n Right now, I live in\u00a0Montenegro, in Budva.<\/p>\n Besides running labels and recording radio shows, I organize music events at a cocktail bar called\u00a0Lemonade, which we opened six months ago.<\/p>\n Recently, I launched a record store inside the bar\u2014so now, I\u2019m also a vinyl shop owner. Unbelievable! Seeing this project grow and develop is incredibly exciting. Right now, this is my main focus.<\/p>\n Honestly,\u00a0my car\u00a0has been bringing me the most joy\u2014because without it, life in Montenegro would be boring and difficult!<\/p>\n But beyond that, I\u2019ve been deeply moved by how a\u00a0community of musicians has naturally formed around our bar. They gather, play whatever they feel like in the moment, and it\u2019s something truly special.<\/p>\n And, surprisingly, people have made me happy too. Those I\u2019ve met in this new country, in this new place I moved to last year. Can you talk us through your process?<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\nWhat made you make the decision to release a vinyl mix compilation in todays world, which has a large influx of podcasts going live every day? Did you choose to go against the grain to make a statement with this mix?<\/h3>\n
It was a Dutch project by\u00a0Jaap Eggermont<\/strong>, inspired by a bootleg 12\u201d featuring\u00a0The<\/strong> Beatlessongs<\/strong> with a disco beat. Eggermont<\/strong> hired vocalists to recreate the medley for an official release.<\/p>\n
\nYou have a long history in electronic music as a producer, DJ, radio host and more. Could you tell us a little about your journey in electronic music?\u00a0<\/h3>\n
