As Single Malt whisky drinkers, we\u2019ve had more than our fair share of Sherry cask aged and cask finished whiskies over the years, but we can\u2019t say that we\u2019ve had much in the way of actual Sherry. Thanks to a recent email that landed in our inbox, that just changed thanks to Lustau East India Solera Sherry<\/a> which is the subject of today\u2019s video.<\/p>\n

Here are more than a few words about this Sherry taken from the Lustau website<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Dark mahogany in colour with green-amber edge. It offers vibrant notes of maple syrup, brown sugar, shoe polish, raisin and chocolate beer nuts, all very well integrated. On the palate it is smooth and rich at the beginning, full of prune and burned oranges peel flavours. Provocative spicy notes appear just before its nuttiness and terrific acidity cuts through the sweetness. With a truly unforgettable finish.<\/em><\/p>\n

Each wine (Oloroso and Pedro Xim\u00e9nez) is matured, separately in its own solera for 12 years. Once blended together, the resulting sherry is returned to a 45-cask solera for a further 3 years ageing. In centuries gone by, casks with sherry were lashed to ships sailing for the Indies and were found to develop an extraordinary smoothness and complexity. Lustau has revived this style of sherry in the East India wine.<\/em><\/p>\n

So total aging for this Sherry is a minimum of 15 years and the ABV is 20%. The description certainly makes it sound delicious. But is it? Click play on the following video to find out:<\/p>\n
