It was during his time shooting for women\u2019s magazine <em>Minx<\/em> (what he calls a female version of <em>Loaded<\/em>) in the capital, when he noticed just how revered \u201cafters\u201d culture is to the British; this was a phenomenon, he observed, that was built into the city\u2019s day-to-day functioning. \u201cWhat is amazing is all the infrastructure here, and not just in London, but also in the other cities,\u201d Haller says. \u201cYou can get out of a club at 5 am, and there will be some greasy spoon open that actually serves you breakfast!\u201d Post-club feasting features heavily in Haller\u2019s photos \u2013 in some, twenty-somethings are surrounded by polystyrene boxes or plates of chips \u2013 in others they\u2019re lingering under McDonald\u2019s doorframes or grinning in anticipation through kebab shop windows.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The British reverence for afters goes deeper, though: There\u2019s a feeling of transgression to staying up into the early hours \u2013 a past-your-bedtime defiance that offsets the rigid social customs often ascribed to British culture. \u201cI think there&#8217;s the desire for the night not to end because you\u2019re having such a great time for five, six hours and you want to go on forever,\u201d says Haller. \u201cBut also, when you let go in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huckmag.com\/article\/on-the-road-with-the-free-photographic-omnibus-in-the-1970s-uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Britain<\/a> then you<em> really<\/em> let go, because it\u2019s a very reserved culture during the day or the week,  but then on the weekend the gloves are off and anything is possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">It\u2019s a feeling that clearly resonates with people today: Since the photobook was published by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huckmag.com\/article\/the-changing-face-of-british-culture-in-photos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">British Culture Archive<\/a> earlier this year, it has sold out its first and now second editions. \u201cI thought it would take us a year to sell a thousand books. It took us three days.
