<\/a><\/p>\n(Beth Clifton collage)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n PUEBLO, Colorado\u2013\u2013<\/strong>Disbarred lawyer Jessica Lee Hoff, \u00a047,\u00a0 so far the only person to be criminally charged in a string of recent pit bull attacks on middle-aged and older women,\u00a0 is due to make her first court appearance on Thursday,\u00a0 March 27,\u00a0 2025.<\/p>\n Reportedly held in the Pueblo County Jail in lieu of post $50,000 bond, \u00a0Jessica Hoff \u201cis facing charges of criminal negligence of an at-risk adult resulting in death and 54 counts of aggravated cruelty to animals,\u201d\u00a0 according to KKTV,\u00a0 of Colorado Springs.<\/p>\n Hoff allegedly left her mother LaVonne Hoff,\u00a0 76,\u00a0 home alone with the two pit bulls who killed her on February 3,\u00a0 2025,\u00a0 while running errands.<\/p>\n Lavonne Hoff (right) with daughter Jessica Hoff (left). (Facebook photo)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cLaVonne Hoff reportedly had dementia and required 24-hour care,\u201d\u00a0 Pueblo County Sheriff\u2019s Office spokesperson Gayle Perez told media.<\/p>\n The arrest papers,\u00a0 KKTV detailed,\u00a0 \u201csay the conditions of the Hoff\u2019s Colorado City home were not only terrible for LaVonne Hoff, \u00a0Jessica\u2019s 76-year-old mother who was attacked by Jessica\u2019s dogs, \u00a0but for the numerous dogs and birds living there.\u201d<\/p>\n Twenty-two dogs were found alive at the home,\u00a0 along with seven birds and one dead dog.<\/p>\n (Beth Clifton collage)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Hoff \u201calso had over 20 more dogs in a shed on Crow Cutoff in Colorado City,\u201d\u00a0 KKTV continued.<\/p>\n \u201cFourteen [of the 42 total impounded dogs] had to be humanely euthanized, \u00a011 of whom were determined to have severe medical conditions.<\/p>\n \u201cThree were euthanized for being involved in the attack on LaVonne Hoff.\u201d<\/p>\n Twenty-eight of the 42 dogs and all seven of the birds, \u00a0KKTV learned,\u00a0 have been rehomed.<\/p>\n (Beth Clifton collage)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n According to court records,\u00a0 \u201cIn May 2022, \u00a0the State Bar of Texas disbarred Jessica Lee Hoff for engaging in professional misconduct. \u00a0The discipline was effective on May 23, 2022. \u00a0Hoff did not alert Colorado disciplinary authorities about her Texas disbarment.\u201d<\/p>\n On August 4,\u00a0 2022,\u00a0 Jessica Hoff was \u201carrested by the Fremont County Sheriff\u2019s Office on a U.S. Marshal Hold.\u201d<\/p>\n On April 27,\u00a0 2023,\u00a0 Jessica Hoff was disbarred in Colorado for \u201creciprocal discipline,\u00a0 which calls for imposition of the same discipline as that imposed in Texas.\u201d<\/p>\n On January 23,\u00a0 2024,\u00a0 the Colorado Commissioner of Agriculture won a temporary restraining order against Jessica Hoff,\u00a0 enjoining her from operating \u201can unlicensed pet animal shelter or sanctuary by harboring,\u00a0 sheltering,\u00a0 or otherwise possessing more than fifteen dogs,\u00a0 cats,\u00a0 or combination thereof,\u00a0 in a central location,\u00a0 without a Colorado Pet Care & Animal Facilities Act permit.\u201d<\/p>\n Barbara Stewart.\u00a0 (Facebook photo)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n WGNO reporter Mallory Smith on March 25, \u00a02025 disclosed that,\u00a0 \u201cThe New Orleans Police Department and Louisiana SPCA are investigating\u201d the March 20,\u00a0 2025 death of Barbara Stewart,\u00a0 81,\u00a0 who \u201caccording to family members was taking out her trash outside her home in New Orleans East, \u00a0when her neighbors dogs escaped from a fenced-in yard and attacked Stewart.<\/p>\n \u201cRelatives say Stewart\u2019s neighbor owns six pit bulls,\u201d\u00a0 Smith continued. According to the Louisiana SPCA, \u00a0two of the dogs involved in the attack are being held on a mandatory 10-day quarantine, \u00a0awaiting possible euthanasia, \u00a0while a third dog was surrendered to the agency and is scheduled to be euthanized.<\/p>\n (Beth Clifton collage)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThe Louisiana Humane Law & Rescue has issued the owner of the dogs two counts of dangerous dogs and two counts of failure to properly confine dogs,\u201d\u00a0 Mallory Smith added.<\/p>\n \u201cAccording to the Humane Law & Rescue team,\u201d\u00a0 Mallory Smith relayed,\u00a0 \u201cthe three dogs escaped from a fenced yard by breaking through a gate. \u00a0The dogs\u2019 owner witnessed at least one of the dogs biting the victim.<\/p>\n Louisiana SPCA executive director Ann Zorilla told Mallory Smith that \u201cRecords show animal control was previously been dispatched to the same address in 2018 to investigate dogs roaming at large, \u00a0but the dogs involved in that case are not the same\u201d involved in killing Stewart.<\/p>\n (Beth Clifton collage)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n KPRC in Houston,\u00a0 Texas, \u00a0meanwhile disclosed that \u201cThe three dogs who attacked and killed\u201d Harriet Phillips,\u00a0 65,\u00a0 on March 23,\u00a0 2025, \u00a0\u201cwere Staffordshire bull terrier pit bulls, \u00a0according to BARC Houston,\u201d\u00a0 the city animal control agency.<\/p>\n \u201cThe dogs broke through a shared fence in the back yard of the residence, \u00a0according to police.\u00a0 Police said the owner of the dogs did not witness the attack but saw his neighbor covered in blood on the back porch and called 911.<\/p>\n \u201cAccording to animal control, the three dogs have been euthanized.\u201d<\/p>\nDisbarred lawyer accused in death of her mother & alleged neglect of animals<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n
