{"id":155296,"date":"2025-03-25T07:33:15","date_gmt":"2025-03-25T07:33:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/aerospace\/us-dot-to-unveil-plan-for-modernizing-us-air-traffic-control\/"},"modified":"2025-03-25T07:33:15","modified_gmt":"2025-03-25T07:33:15","slug":"us-dot-to-unveil-plan-for-modernizing-us-air-traffic-control","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=155296","title":{"rendered":"US DOT to unveil plan for modernizing US air traffic control"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is set to announce a plan to modernize the \u201caging, under-staffed\u201d air traffic control system in the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a statement made on March 21, 2025, and seen by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/aerospace-defense\/us-transportation-chief-unveil-plan-upgrade-air-traffic-control-2025-03-21\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reuters<\/a>, Duffy indicated that he would reveal the details of the upgrade plan later this week.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the most recent developments, he mentioned that he had informed US President Donald Trump about the initiative, who wants \u201cto create a state-of-the-art, brand new air control system\u201d and is in favor of the proposed reforms.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-leaderboard bn-1\"\/>\n<p>Duffy aims to introduce new runway safety technology to eliminate the need for controllers to use binoculars for spotting aircraft, as well as to phase outdated technologies like floppy disks, according to the Reuters report.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Duffy is advocating for a quicker replacement of old copper wire telecommunications equipment and other necessary improvements.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in March 2025, Duffy stated that the Transportation Department plans to seek Congressional funding for a\u00a0 \u201cbrand new state-of-the-art\u201d air traffic control system.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-leaderboard bn-2\"\/>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to have an announcement in the next couple days,\u201d Duffy said in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/state-art-air-traffic-control-system-unveiled-next-couple-days-duffy-says\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fox News<\/a> earlier this month. \u201cWe are going to have a brand new system. Again, our system is 25, 30 years old. We use copper wires, floppy disks. I mean\u2026 it\u2019s atrocious, the system we use,\u201d Duffy said. \u201cIt\u2019s safe, but we\u2019re seeing the cracks of age. So we\u2019re going to build a brand new state of the art system.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, on February 27, 2025, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced plans to \u201csupercharge\u201d efforts to recruit more air traffic controllers to tackle a persistent staffing shortage in the US.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis administration is committed to solving the air traffic control shortage that has existed for too long,\u201d Duffy stated in a February 2025 post on<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SecDuffy\/status\/1895205756376379587\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> X<\/a> in February 2025.
