I just advise and guide, and don\u2019t make decisions. They bought the house, and it was good for their planned five to seven year house.<\/p>\n<p>About two years (maybe three) years later, he asked me to have coffee.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>\u201cYou were right.\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This was their routine:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He and his spouse would leave in the morning in separate cars, driving to separate parts of Charlottesville \u2013 one east, one north. About 30-35 minutes each.<\/li>\n<li>One would go home to deal with the dog. And go back to work.<\/li>\n<li>They\u2019d both go home after work.<\/li>\n<li>If they wanted to see friends, they\u2019d go in one car together to Charlottesville, and likely have 2 or fewer drinks as it was at least 30 minutes back home.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They realized how much of their lives they were spending\/wasting driving to and from places (my spin on the realization, not necessarily theirs).<em>(see also: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realcentralva.com\/2015\/08\/04\/gas-price-math-charlottesville-city-vs-albemarle-county\/\">Gas Price Math)<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>We listed and sold their house, and they did pretty well for only owning it for a few years, and they rented a home in Charlottesville. (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.realcentralva.com\/2010\/07\/12\/im-moving-to-charlottesville-should-i-rent-first\/\">Renting first is almost always the right choice<\/a><\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Some time after, they bought a house in a better (righter) location.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re a client of mine, I have probably said this to you. I said it this morning to a new client.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m comfortable we can find you a house that is \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.realcentralva.com\/2018\/05\/14\/buying-a-house-thats-good-enough\/\">good enough<\/a>.\u201d We could find you the best, most perfect, most amazing house for you, but if you\u2019re driving 40 minutes to the stuff (school, grocery, park, bowling, work, whatever) that is important to you, it might not be the right house.<\/p>\n<h3>We can find the <em><strong>what<\/strong><\/em>.
