fascinating they are.\u00a0 Not just for their history and the stories of the people who traveled aboard them, but for their tendency to become reefs \u2013 and given their construction \u2013 to become very diverse reefs.\u00a0 There are few reefs after all that have holds full of cave dwelling species only a few meters away from decking and walkways in high current, plankton-rich waters.\u00a0 Here\u2019s a wreck that is so far into becoming a reef, it\u2019s hardly recognizable.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_130140\" style=\"width: 1010px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reefs.com\/?attachment_id=130140\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-130140\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-130140\" class=\"wp-image-130140 class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hard to believe this is a substantial part of a steam engine<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>On the western end of a small island in the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aquariumspecialty.com\/idevaffiliate\/idevaffiliate.php?id=101&amp;url=289\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Red Sea\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"172\">Red Sea<\/a> known as Big Brother, shipwrecks are slowly merging with the reef.\u00a0 The Numidia\u2019s broken bow rests at around 20 meters and her stern is at well over 50.\u00a0 The smaller vessel, the Aida, is revealed by a trail of debris left as she slid down the reef slope, her main superstructure starts at below 30 meters.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/reefs.com\/?attachment_id=130143\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-130143\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-130143 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/reefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/RCA_5959-2.jpg\" alt=\"shipwreck reef\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/reefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/RCA_5959-2.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/reefs.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/RCA_5959-2-300x200.jpg 300w, numbers\u00a0mean these two old tubs are some of the most pretty in the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3RcVfCK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Red Sea\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"173\">Red Sea<\/a>; both are covered in amazing amounts of life, from Tubastrea colonies to Neptheids.\u00a0 To such an extent that it can be hard to separate wreck from reef in some locations.\u00a0 Looking at the lead picture of this pair of Heniochus, it\u2019s hard to believe that\u2019s a shipwreck they\u2019re swimming over.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/reefs.com\/?attachment_id=130154\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-130154\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-130154 size-full\" 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Take a look at this picture \u2013 isn\u2019t it an amazing reef?\u00a0 Well, yes, sort of.\u00a0 Look carefully and there are a few straight lines underlying
