Michon Martin has been named CEO of independent agency R&R Partners<\/a> as longtime leader Billy Vasillidis steps into a chairman role. <\/p>\n

Vasillidis had been president, CEO, and majority owner of the Las Vegas-based agency since 1994, when he teamed up with Salt Lake City political consultant Bob Henrie to acquire it.<\/p>\n

Martin, meanwhile, joined R&R as president in May 2016 after a brief stint as senior vice president of public affairs and deputy general counsel at Resorts World Las Vegas.<\/p>\n

Prior, Martin served as chief counsel to the office of Nevada\u2019s governor and chief deputy attorney general for Nevada, working closely with former Vice President Kamala Harris<\/a> in the latter role, as well as during her recent presidential campaign.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt makes no sense at all and all the sense in the world,\u201d Martin told ADWEEK, speaking about her career shift. \u201cAs a prosecutor, my job was to establish the facts, understand everything about the situation, choose the right audience\u2014the jury\u2014to listen to those facts and convince them. It\u2019s a very good base to use that skill set for exactly what we do. I dig in and figure out the entirety of whatever the client\u2019s problem is. Understanding what consumers are dealing with is the way to solve problems uniquely.\u201d<\/p>\n

During her time at R&R, Martin has helped woo Formula 1, Major League Baseball, the National Football League, and the Women\u2019s National Basketball Association to Las Vegas.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbout 10 years ago, we were starting to see the next iteration of Vegas,\u201d Martin said. \u201cVegas has reinvented itself so many times. We had to be unique and do something that no one thought we would ever do,\u201d which is where courting the sports leagues came in.<\/p>\n

In her new role, she will continue overseeing creative, digital, and government affairs work and serving clients such as Allegiant Air, Boeing, Brand USA, Discover Puerto Rico, F1, the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority, and United Parks and Resorts.<\/p>\n

New era, new look<\/strong><\/p>\n

R&R Partners is marking the transition and its 50th anniversary with the rollout of a new brand identity, including a refreshed logo, as well as updates to its color palette, merchandise, stylebook, and website that incorporates bold colors and fonts.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The merchandise is geared toward R&R employees, with Vasillidis telling ADWEEK it serves as a rallying cry of sorts, adding, \u201cOur culture here is to have all of our 300-plus employees feeling a real sense of belonging, a sense of purpose, a sense of mission. What\u2019s the point of being here? What\u2019s the purpose? What do we care about most?\u201d<\/p>\n

Martin\u2019s promotion caps two years of significant personnel moves at R&R, including the additions of Monn from Media Arts Lab, chief marketing officer Matt Matzen<\/a> from Deutsch, head of talent David Panzarasa<\/a> and head of integrated production Kat Urban<\/a> from Chiat Day, and head of strategy Richard Oldfield<\/a> from R\/GA.<\/p>\n

Vassiliadis has played a key role in tourism efforts for Las Vegas for four decades, highlighted by the iconic \u201cWhat Happens in Vegas\u201d campaign. He also served as an advisor to Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.<\/p>\n

Martin said that as chairman Vassiliadis will continue to play \u201ca critical role in our strategic and creative direction\u201d and to \u201chelp steer our clients through crises.\u201d<\/p>\n
