\nof The Jason Max Ferdinand Singers on Saturday, August 13th at 5 p.m. in
\n the iconic sacred splendor of National City Christian Church under the
\ndirection of the incomparable Jason Max Ferdinand.\u00a0 I ‘sat down’ with
\nFerdinand about the genesis of his ensemble and the unforgettable
\nevening of music set to take place in the Nation’s Capital!\u00a0 Spread the
\nword!\u00a0 This is the choral music ticket of the summer!<\/span><\/p>\n

For those who adventure into the world of concert choral music it is
\nnot unusual to encounter a vocal ensemble named and fashioned after a
\nspecific namesake.\u00a0 The Dale Warland Singers, The Robert Shaw Festival
\nSingers, The Robert DeCormier Singers, The Albert McNeill Jubilee
\nSingers or The Lloyd Mallory Singers may initially come to mind.\u00a0 A
\ngame-changer has arrived on the scene-ready to add its name to the
\nmarquee of this grand tradition.\u00a0 Named for, created and led by
\ncelebrated conductor Jason Max Ferdinand, it is with great excitement
\nthat we share in announcing the second season of The Jason Max Ferdinand
\n Singers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Premiering in March 2021, the ensemble appeared with Decca Classics
\nrecording artists Voces8, to create a live virtual concert experience
\nfor music lovers around the world who were quarantined during in the
\nmidst of the COVID-10 pandemic entitled, Live from London<\/em>.
\nSince then,the group has toured both nationally and internationally. The
\n twenty-eight member mixed vocal ensemble will make its Washington, D.C.
\n d\u00e9but on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 5 p.m. in the iconic sacred
\nsplendor of National City Christian Church.<\/span><\/p>\n

In regards to his newly formed brainchild, Jason says, \u201cThis is not a nascent concept, and I\u2019ve\u00a0<\/span>been conceptualizing it for about twenty years. I am anxious and ready to create it. With some\u00a0<\/span>prodding and a team in place, I have been encouraged to set it free. The voices are exciting, thei<\/span>r repertoire will reach hearts and minds, and bring hope for a better tomorrow.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

We caught up with Ferdinand to chat about the significance of his ensemble and the big DC d\u00e9but:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

PDM: \u00a0<\/strong> What specifically inspired the formation of The Jason Max Ferdinand Singers?<\/span><\/p>\n

JMF:<\/strong>\u00a0 The seed for this endeavor was planted way
\n back in 2001.\u00a0\u00a0It was after my Master\u2019s recital at Morgan State
\nUniversity, where my professor was Dr. Nathan Carter, many members of
\nthat ensemble pleased for me to keep the group together. Angelo Johnson,
\n my dear friend and member of this present ensemble, would constantly
\nremind me for the next 20+ years.\u00a0\u00a0Honestly, I was scared to venture
\nout.\u00a0\u00a0It was at the asking of Robin Tyson, manager of Voces8, that
\ncompelled me to strongly consider it and here we are.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

PDM:<\/strong>\u00a0 Musically speaking, what would you say is (or will be) the hallmark of your ensemble?<\/span><\/p>\n

JMF:<\/strong>\u00a0 The beauty of this aggregation, and the
\nongoing response to that question, is that, we are enjoying discovering
\nthe answer.\u00a0\u00a0We have a total blast enjoying the varying talents and
\neveryone literal brings their own voice to the mix.\u00a0\u00a0Time will tell and
\nperhaps, the answer should be left as an ongoing quest.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

PDM:<\/strong>\u00a0 Your upcoming DC d\u00e8but concert is in one of
\nWashington\u2019s most iconic sacred spaces. What led you to National City as
\n the performance venue?<\/span><\/p>\n

JMF: \u00a0 <\/strong>It is interesting how the stars align.\u00a0\u00a0It
\nwas a mutual friend that connected Gerald Lee Ricks and I
\ntogether.\u00a0\u00a0Gerald serves as musical director at the historic church and
\nhe presented the idea and more. We are so humbled to now be connected.<\/span><\/p>\n

PDM:\u00a0<\/strong> Tell us about the composition of the group.<\/span><\/p>\n

JMF:<\/strong> The composition is what makes this such a beautiful thing.\u00a0\u00a0We have as some examples:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
