These sweet blueberry tea buns, or blueberry biscuits, are exactly the type of thing you would see either of my grandmothers baking at the end of summer and early fall. As soon as blueberry season starts here in Newfoundland, we can\u2019t help but use them in delicious traditional baking like this.<\/span><\/p>\n

My dad is an avid berry picker and has been all his life. Coincidentally, today is his 81st birthday! <\/span><\/p>\n

If there are any of this summer\u2019s crop left out there to be found, he\u2019s probably out on the barrens picking them now.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first blueberries of the 2020 season, picked by my now 81 year old father.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Thankfully he is still fit as a fiddle and able to keep me supplied with the best of our seasonal berries. I have a beef bucket full waiting for me in his freezer right now! <\/span><\/p>\n

Hopefully I can use them for more new blueberry recipes over the winter. Stay tuned.<\/span><\/p>\n

Blueberry Tea Buns<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As a matter of fact, I brought this batch to my parents house when I had lunch with them and my aunt and uncle last week. They all enjoyed them very much indeed. <\/span><\/p>\n

However, the blueberries this time were supplied by my son Noah, who picked them on Signal Hill a day before.<\/span><\/p>\n

Blueberry Tea Buns can be enjoyed warm with butter if you prefer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Too many blueberries?<\/span><\/h3>\n

One of the things my dad is known for is overloading any recipe with blueberries. When he makes this Blueberry Snack Cake<\/a><\/strong><\/span> for example, he says he only needs enough cake to hold the berries together!<\/span><\/p>\n

I hate to disagree, but that isn\u2019t always a good idea. Too many blueberries in a cake can affect the rise. <\/span><\/p>\n

The same is true for this recipe. Although dear old dad would add more, I experimented and decided on 1 1\/2 cups as the ideal amount.<\/span><\/p>\n

The vanilla glaze is of course, optional but it makes a nice change for a Sunday brunch or for a special teatime with friends.<\/span><\/p>\n
