Every summer, NYCM
\nInsurance\u2019s internship<\/a> program welcomes students into divisions across the
\ncompany, focusing on providing them with opportunities to learn and grow as
\nprofessionals. This year, 36 interns joined Team NYCM, becoming immersed in our
\nculture while gaining first-hand experience on what it\u2019s like to work within
\nour four walls.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
\ninterns<\/a> receive while working alongside our employees doesn\u2019t stop at the
\nday-to-day tasks within their division. We also offer opportunities to interact
\nwith other teams, lead projects, volunteer, and more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
\nvaluable real-world experiences, allowing them to learn and work closely with
\nthe teams they are a part of, as well as getting to be a part of a great
\ncompany culture and community,\u201d said NYCM\u2019s Recruitment Team.\u00a0 \u201cWe value
\nthe fresh perspective they bring to the organization and love seeing them
\ninteracting and being a part of their teams. We create a collaborative and
\ncreative environment they will thrive in, in hopes of them returning to us for
\nfull-time opportunities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
\nintern volunteer projects was to set up for the Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball
\ntournament in Norwich, NY. \u201cSetting up hoops was a cool opportunity to not only
\nsupport a community event, but also to connect with other interns at NYCM and
\nwork together as a team,\u201d said Maeve Robinson, Public Relations intern within
\nour Brand Management team.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
\ninterns<\/a> worked on was hosting a trivia day for each of our branch offices.
\nEmployees were encouraged to sign up with a team to find out if they were
\n\u201csmarter than a 5th grader\u201d at the intern-led event.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
\nteam wanted to ensure that our interns knew just how much they are appreciated,
\nso they hosted various events for them throughout the summer<\/a> as well. One of
\nthe most popular events according to the interns was a Pickleball tournament followed
\nby lunch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/a><\/div>\n
\nabout what other teams do is another important part of NYCM\u2019s internship
\nprogram. A popular intern and employee event<\/a> invites each department to set up
\na booth with representatives to interact with all the interns, explaining what
\ntheir team is responsible for.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
\ninterns this year and had fun celebrating them on Intern Day to show
\nappreciation for all they do! This year we invited all the divisions to mingle,
\nallowing the interns to learn more about each of them and to give the interns
\nthe opportunity to explore how other divisions in the company<\/a> could fit into
\ntheir career interests. A fun day for all that attended, including a tiki bar
\nprovided by our Human Resources Division,\u201d said Talent Acquisition Business
\nUnit Manager, Crystal Curpier.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
\nmore about what some of our 2024 interns had to say about their
\nexperience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
\nManagement\u2019s Public Relations team<\/a>, said that her favorite part about her
\ninternship was the events she was able to plan and participate in. \u201cI really
\nenjoyed being able to interact with others and events are the perfect way to do
\nthat.\u201d One thing that Maeve has taken away from her internship is how to manage
\nher time better and not to be hesitant to ask questions about the processes her
\nteam uses to get tasks done. She learned to really like internal project
\nmanagement tools because they helped her stay organized. Maeve plans to attend
\nFlorida Gulf Coast University majoring in Hospitality and Resort
\nManagement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
\ninternship here at NYCM, and this summer she had the pleasure of working in our
\nPeople Development division. \u201cMy favorite part of being part of the People
\nDevelopment team was planning employee events<\/a>.\u201d During her internship, Jaci
\ntaught Excel classes, planned an intern day, helped host bingo for employees,
\nand planned trivia day. Jaci learned about NYCM\u2019s internship program from her
\nolder sister who was an intern in past years. Throughout this summer, Jaci has
\nbuilt important skills such as multitasking, event planning, and time
\nmanagement. These skills will help her in the fall as she embarks on her
\njourney as a teacher.<\/span><\/p>\n
\nwith NYCM\u2019s Casualty Claims team. Her favorite part about her summer internship
\nwas the relationship she built with her team. \u201cI loved that the team was always
\nwilling to help me with any questions that I had.\u201d Anna is pursuing a career in
\nthe medical field and decided it would be beneficial to learn about the
\nrelationship liability insurance has with her chosen path. During her research
\nfor possible internship opportunities, Anna stumbled upon NYCM and had heard
\nfrom previous interns that it is a great place to work, so she applied.
\nSomething that Anna took away from her internship is to have a well detailed
\nprocess when creating documents like a handbook. \u201cWhile learning my role,
\nhaving a specific process of doing tasks allowed me to work independently, but
\nalso knowing the team was nearby to support me when needed.\u201d Anna said that
\nseeing the medical side of insurance opened her eyes to a new perspective and
\nnow she knows what things she can do as a physical<\/a> therapist to make the claims
\nprocess easier for claims representatives. After her internship, Anna has a newfound
\nappreciation for insurance. In May of 2025, Anna will be receiving her
\nDoctorate in Physical Therapy.<\/span><\/p>\n
\nthe Brand Management team\u2019s Creative Team. \u201cMy favorite part of this internship
\nwas the photo coverage that I was able to help with at events.\u201d Doing this
\nallowed Tyler to get more hands-on experience and he enjoyed seeing employees
\ninteracting with one another outside of the office. Something that Tyler
\nfocused on improving during his internship was his time management skills and credits
\ninternal tools in helping to work on those skills in an efficient and effective
\nway. Tyler will be a sophomore at SUNY Polytechnic Institute in the fall, where
\nhe is majoring in Communication and Media Design.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
\nNYCM\u2019s Special Investigation Unit (SIU). Throughout the summer, Kaden built a
\nspecial relationship with his team and said that was one of his favorite parts
\nof his internship. \u201cThe team was incredibly helpful whenever I had questions
\nand was very patient as the summer internships are a learning process for
\neveryone.\u201d Kaden said he has learned some valuable skills during his internship
\nthat he will use throughout his career, like professionalism while doing field
\nwork and questions to ask while out in the field. Kaden is studying Criminal
\nJustice at SUNY Morrisville and plans to be a state trooper.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
