The incendiary book which inspired the girl\u2019s abduction also seems to be linked to a series of grisly murders that are taking place on Harley\u2019s patch, and though he\u2019s delighted to be asked by Scotland Yard to help find the killer before they strike again, he could do without the local razor- and cosh-wielding mobsters thinking he\u2019s in the police\u2019s pocket.<\/p>\n<p>Set during the Golden Age of Crime Fiction, Harley\u2019s world is a far cry from the country house of an Agatha Christie whodunnit. This working-class sleuth does his \u2018sherlocking\u2019 in the frowsy alleyways and sleazy nightclubs of Soho \u2013 the city\u2019s underbelly \u2013 peopled with lowlife ponces, jaded streetwalkers, and Jewish and Maltese gangsters: a world of grubby bedsits, all-night caf\u00e9s, egg and chips, and Gold Flake cigarettes.<\/p>\n<p>Here, the midnight streets are black as pitch and, as Harley finds himself embroiled in the macabre mysteries of a city in which truth is as murky as the pea-souper smog and the sins are as dark as stout porter beer, he begins to realise he may never find a way out.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/m.media-amazon.com\/images\/I\/51YJo9brNRL._SY445_SX342_.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Husband Missing by Lisa Regan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fear prickles her skin.\u00a0\u201cNoah?\u201d Photos and trinkets from their simple but perfect life together litter the carpet. The woman\u2019s body found during a demonstration outside a children\u2019s hospital belongs to\u00a0<strong>Gina Phelan<\/strong>, daughter of the powerful and influential Phelan family.
