It\u2019s a Western museum, and I was scared [initially] that it was going to be a battle \u2013 how many times do you see an exhibition from this perspective?\u201d <\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Indeed, in a moment when countless museums and galleries across Europe and America are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/opinions\/2024\/12\/30\/2024-was-a-year-of-anti-palestinian-censorship-and-active-art-rebellion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">silencing<\/a> artists who display support for a free Palestine, the significance of this show is heightened. In part, considers Khader, his invitation to exhibit is a by-product of his nomination from Magnum Photos \u2013 last July he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.magnumphotos.com\/photographer\/sakir-khader\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">became<\/a> the first Palestinian photographer selected to join the historic photo agency since it\u00a0was established in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huckmag.com\/article\/graffiti-trucks-of-paris\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Paris<\/a> in 1947.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Read next: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huckmag.com\/article\/time-magnum?next\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">History\u2019s biggest moments, as seen by Magnum photographers<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cI&#8217;m really honoured to be part of Magnum, but it\u2019s also a win for them because the world I see, the world I walk in, is different than [that of] most Magnum photographers,\u201d says Khader, alluding to his Middle Eastern identity. \u201cIf you look at the work Magnum has done in America for example, it portrays America as it is. And that&#8217;s the win for Magnum having me, showing Palestine from within. I\u2019m capturing history, working with people for long periods. My work is focused on life and death, that\u2019s what I\u2019m trying to contribute: showing us alive, showing the pain we endure, the injustice happening in our region, but also the strength of the people living through everything.
