Over the long term, if we put good tax policy in place, deregulation and energy security, the markets will do great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-03-16\/traders-gauging-stock-market-s-next-move-keep-wary-eye-on-flows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">selloff<\/a>&nbsp;that took the S&amp;P 500 Index into a correction last week came amid investor concerns about the economic effects of the Trump administration\u2019s moves around tariffs, immigration and cuts to the federal government. Losses in equity markets have deepened with mounting growth concerns and souring consumer&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-03-14\/us-consumer-sentiment-drops-price-expectations-soar-on-tariffs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sentiment<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are putting the policies in place that will make the affordability crisis go down, inflation moderate and as we set the sails I am confident that the American people will come our way,\u201d said Bessent, who ran Key Square Group before joining the administration.<\/p>\n<p>As the scope of President Donald Trump\u2019s tariff policy broadens, consumers across the political spectrum have become increasingly concerned that the extra duties will lead to higher costs. Families instead want to afford a home and see their children do better than they are.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s mortgages, it\u2019s cars, it\u2019s real wage gains,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>As questions about the US economy build, Federal Reserve officials are due to meet this week.
