Are you searching for new clients but unsure how to go about it? There are many reasons you may be looking for new clients. The challenge is knowing where to start and dealing with the internal politics, fear and resistance to change.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-h-3-font-size\">Marketing Assumptions<\/h3>\n<p>Too many people assume marketing equates to advertising, websites, sales, and social media. There is a tendency to jump into a project like a new website or some other busywork, hoping to \u201ctick the marketing box\u201d so you can get back to business and be done with it.<\/p>\n<p>Others hum and haw over the decision and fail to act. They may not understand marketing and are reluctant to throw money at the problem. Doing nothing feels safer and easier.<\/p>\n<p>What you know is your current efforts are not working, and doing something feels better than doing nothing. Then, off you go into the marketing busywork vortex.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-h-3-font-size\">What\u2019s the Alternative?<\/h3>\n<p>The alternative is to get clear on your situation, goals, and constraints and develop a purposeful plan of action.<\/p>\n<p>Marketing is not a bunch of tasks to complete. Marketing is the system you build to develop target relationships and drive earnings growth. If you\u2019re unclear about why you\u2019re considering marketing and how you\u2019ll define success, you\u2019re not ready.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-h-3-font-size\">Strategic Conversations<\/h3>\n<p>There are several important conversations to work through before you invest.<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Clarifying the specific problems you need to solve<\/li>\n<li>Identifying economic constraints and success criteria<\/li>\n<li>Assessing client needs and competitive factors<\/li>\n<li>Considering alternative courses of action<\/li>\n<li>Mapping out the logistics and developing forecast models<\/li>\n<li>Determining how to implement your plan<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve worked through these conversations, the heavy lifting begins.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-h-3-font-size\">Pre-marketing Is Not Ownerous<\/h3>\n<p>The whole pre-marketing process boils down to doing your homework and having a plan before you start.\u00a0It\u2019s not a herculean challenge. It may be unfamiliar territory, but it\u2019s not rocket science either. It can happen quickly once you decide to act.<\/p>\n<p>Hiring a guide to facilitate makes a world of difference. You need someone who understands the whole <a href=\"https:\/\/accruemarketing.com\/marketing-versus-commercialization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">commercialization process<\/a> to facilitate, direct your efforts and help you commit to a worthy plan of action.\u00a0You want a <a href=\"https:\/\/accruemarketing.com\/offering\/sales-and-marketing-coaching\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sales and marketing coach<\/a>, consultant or Fractional <a href=\"https:\/\/accruemarketing.com\/do-i-need-a-cmo-chief-marketing-officer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chief Marketing Officer<\/a> to guide you.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-h-3-font-size\">Where to Begin?<\/h3>\n<p>The pre-marketing process always starts with a conversation about context and purpose. Where are you now? What\u2019s not working? What are the implications of inaction? What are the target outcomes, and what are the risks?<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re not ready to engage in a discovery conversation, you\u2019re not prepared to invest in marketing.<\/p>\n<p>Focus on overcoming your fear and resistance to change. If you don\u2019t address the root issues, you\u2019ll doom your efforts from the outset.<\/p>\n<p>Your marketing is an expression of your leadership. More than anything, it\u2019s about clarity of intention and commitment to act.
