President Donald Trump<\/strong> referred to CNN and MSNBC \u201cillegal\u201d during a speech at the Department of Justice on Friday. It marked the latest escalation in his language about the news media and those two networks in particular since he returned to the Oval Office in January. <\/p>\n

In his remarks, Trump referred to MSNBC as MSDNC\u2014an apparent reference to the Democratic National Committee. <\/p>\n

\u201cI believe that CNN and MSDNC, who literally write 97.6% bad about me are political arms of the Democrat Party,\u201d he said. \u201cIn my opinion they\u2019re really corrupt and they\u2019re illegal. What they do is illegal.\u201d <\/p>\n

TVNewser has reached out to both CNN and MSNBC for comment, but none was received at press time.<\/p>\n

The Trump administration\u2019s antipathy for both networks is well-known. In February, Trump took to his Truth Social platform<\/a> to publicly criticize Brian Roberts<\/strong>\u2014CEO of MSNBC\u2019s parent company Comcast\u2014for running a \u201ccorrupt operation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey should be forced to pay vast sums of money for the damage they\u2019ve done to our Country,\u201d Trump added.<\/p>\n

That same month, Trump swatted away a question from CNN anchor and White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins<\/strong> during a meeting in the Oval Office saying the network had no \u201ccredibility.\u201d <\/p>\n

Collins was a frequent foil of the president during his first administration as well<\/a>. \u201cI think if you\u2019re interviewing an elected official who is paid by the taxpayers, they shouldn\u2019t like all of your questions,\u201d she told TVNewser in an interview last year<\/a>. \u201cI always seek to be fair and respectful, but what\u2019s the point of interviewing someone if you\u2019re not going to go there and ask them what everyone\u2019s thinking?\u201d<\/p>\n

CNN and MSNBC aren\u2019t the only news networks to face Trump\u2019s ire. In December, ABC News settled a defamation suit<\/a> with the then-president elect over remarks made by anchor George Stephanopoulos<\/strong>. Trump is also in the midst of litigation against CBS News and its parent company, Paramount Global, over an interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris<\/strong> that aired on 60 Minutes during the 2024 election cycle. <\/p>\n

While reports have suggested<\/a> that Paramount head Shari Redstone<\/strong> is eager to settle the suit, the corporation moved to dismiss the case last week<\/a>. <\/p>\n
