Your video spokesperson is the face of your brand. A video presenter needs to be able to embody your message and connect with your audience. Choose carefully, because viewers will make assumptions about your brand based on who is presenting your video.\u00a0<\/p>\n

We asked industry experts for their best casting advice. Then we combined their insights with our experience to figure out the steps you need to follow to recruit a spokesperson.<\/p>\n

Keep in mind that this process is for finding external actors and influencers. You might need a different approach to recruit spokespeople from inside your organization. Before we get into the details, let\u2019s address the elephant in the room \u2014 AI.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Should you Use an AI Video Spokesperson?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Whether to use an AI spokesperson depends on your brand and your audience. Some audiences won\u2019t mind seeing an AI generated person, but others will have strong feelings about it. The state of technology today means that it\u2019s usually obvious when you\u2019ve used AI to generate a person, so be aware that this probably isn\u2019t something you can hide from your audience.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Some companies provide text to spokesperson video services, which take your existing script and use a pre-developed AI spokesperson to deliver those words. Others will allow you to generate a spokesperson from scratch. Whichever version you choose, expect that you\u2019ll need to do some editing to make the AI character look and sound as natural as possible.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re considering using an AI spokesperson<\/a>, think about whether an animated character<\/a> might be a better choice. To hire a live person, who can take direction and make adjustments on the fly, follow these steps.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Step 1: Know Who You\u2019re Looking For In A Video Spokesperson<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Ideally, you\u2019ve at least planned out the script before you start casting for a spokesperson. In that case you should have a good idea of the kind of person who can best deliver your message. It should be someone your audience can trust or identify with.<\/p>\n

Think about the tone you want them to convey. Are you looking for cheerful and friendly, authoritative and trustworthy, silly, somber, or something in between?<\/p>\n

Does their accent matter? Do they need to be able to perform some physical action beyond just talking to the camera? Do you want someone your audience may already know or a new face?<\/p>\n

Once you\u2019re clear on who you\u2019re looking for, you\u2019re almost ready to create your casting call. But first, consider your budget.<\/p>\n

Looking for Union vs. Non-Union Actors<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Before you send out your casting call, decide if you want to recruit Union or Non-Union actors. Union actors belong to the Screen Actors Guild (SAG). To work with them, you need to be in compliance with Union regulations<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Union members tend to meet high professional standards and may be more experienced. They also tend to be more expensive to hire and you may need to fill out some time-consuming paperwork. Plan to start the process 5-6 weeks in advance<\/a> of your recording date.<\/p>\n

Non-union actors are often less expensive, and have more freedom to work on non-union projects. However, each one is like an independent contractor. They may have different professional standards or ways of working. Make sure you thoroughly vet non-union actors.<\/p>\n

Step 2: Create Your Casting Call<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Make your video casting call detailed enough to attract the right person. Travis Johansen, a video producer\/cinematographer from Provid Films<\/a>, recommends that you \u201cbe really narrow with what you\u2019re looking for.\u201d This saves you from wading through dozens of applications from actors who don\u2019t fit the project.<\/p>\n
