Add the tranquility of ambient music, and one might even be able to conquer the day. \u00a0This is the first of six articles that will appear this week, featuring hundreds of spring releases: the first of the flowers to flourish. Rhucle<\/strong>\u2018s\u00a0<em>So Far, So Close<\/em>, a meditation on nature specifically timed to coincide with the new season (April 4). \u00a0<strong>Federica Deiana<\/strong> offers <em>Fragments<\/em>, which nudges against modern composition with healthy servings of strings and piano (April 18). \u00a0This will be followed by <strong>anthe\u0301ne &amp; Simon McCorry<\/strong>\u2018s\u00a0<em>wellspring<\/em>, \u201ca companion piece to the season\u2019s change\u201d (May 2). \u00a0On June 6,\u00a0<strong>Monogoto\u00a0<\/strong>(David Newman, Porya Hatami, and Ian Hawgood) will release <em>Partial Deletion of Everything Volume III<\/em>, the continuation of an inter-label series that began on Polar Seas and 12k. \u00a0To peer further into the future, play the sampler below!<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"120\" style=\"position: relative; display: block; width: 100%; height: 120px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/v=2\/album=2898348161\/size=large\/bgcol=333333\/linkcol=0f91ff\/tracklist=false\/artwork=small\/\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jefre Cantu-Ledesma<\/strong>\u2018s\u00a0<em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/jefrecantu-ledesma.bandcamp.com\/album\/gift-songs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gift Songs<\/a><\/strong><\/em> is an ode to the natural world, inspired by the spirituality of the Shakers (\u2019tis a gift to be simple). \u00a0The artist, whose other incarnations are hospice worker and Zen priest, proves holistic in his approach (Mexican Summer, March 21). \u00a0Five years of environmental works are gathered on\u00a0<strong>Michael Begg<\/strong>\u2018s <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/omnempathy.bandcamp.com\/album\/witness-ambient-chamber-works-2020-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WITNESS: Ambient Chamber Works 2020-2024<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, which includes data from migrations, currents and collapsing glaciers and a preview of the forthcoming <em>Out of Whose Womb Comes the Ice\u00a0<\/em>(Omnempathy, May 19). \u00a0<b>Elori Saxl<\/b>\u2018s score to the film <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/elorisaxl.bandcamp.com\/album\/texada-original-score\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Texada<\/a><\/strong><\/em> delves into the connections between the Canadian island and the people who live there, giving particular attention to nature reclaiming its own (Western Vinyl, April 25).<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"120\" style=\"position: relative; for the first week, they held back the names of the artists, so their intricate music could be appreciated on musical merits alone. \u00a0We now know that the tapes come from <strong>Heroarky<\/strong>, whose\u00a0<em>Healing Process\u00a0<\/em>chronicles a bout with cancer, the yearning for healing and the subsequent recovery; and <strong>Mute Branches<\/strong>, whose\u00a0<em>Us Without the World\u00a0<\/em>imagines a \u201cmythical Elsewhere,\u201d \u00a0where humanity leaves Earth for the stars, only to realize that they have brought their problems along with them (March 28).<\/p>\n<p>Slow dissipations grace <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/manuelcarbone.bandcamp.com\/album\/in-fondo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In Fondo<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, which is described by <strong>Manuel Carbone\u00a0<\/strong>as \u201ca diary or sparse shreds of a diary.\u201d \u00a0It may be the season\u2019s softest release (Dragon\u2019s Eye Recordings, March 28). \u00a0<em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vaagner.bandcamp.com\/album\/the-air-outside-feels-crazy-right-now\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Air Outside Feels Crazy Right Now<\/a><\/strong><\/em> is a close second, described as \u201ca whispered conversation in the quiet moments of the day.\u201d On this album, <strong>Perila<\/strong>\u2018s voice brushes up against sedate, patient guitar (Vaagner, April 3). \u00a0<strong>Billow Observatory<\/strong>\u2018s music may be calm, but\u00a0<em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/billowobservatory.bandcamp.com\/album\/the-glass-curtain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Glass Curtain<\/a><\/strong><\/em> is meant to reflect \u201cslowly spinning globes being knocked slightly off axis.\u201d \u00a0The album marks a return to a purely ambient sound (Felte, April 25). \u00a0<strong>Andreas Lutz\u00a0<\/strong>uses \u201cresynthesized versions of original voice samples\u201d as the foundation of\u00a0<em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/andreaslutz.bandcamp.com\/album\/aura-trans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aura Trans<\/a><\/strong><\/em>; the manipulated voices are nearly unrecognizable in their tendril-like forms (Kasuga, March 28). \u00a0Synthesizer, French horn and bass guitar cause \u201ctime to fold in on itself\u201d on <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mappa.bandcamp.com\/album\/greater-honeyguide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">greater honeyguide<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, a set of ambient drift that features marching minstrels, from the duo <strong>Fraufraulein<\/strong> (mappa, April 3).<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"120\" style=\"position: relative; display: block; width: 100%; height: 120px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/v=2\/album=3920560576\/size=large\/bgcol=333333\/linkcol=ffffff\/tracklist=false\/artwork=small\/\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Electric guitar is the only instrument on <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/odrobinskistephane.bandcamp.com\/album\/le-bleu-de-la-rivi-re-tournesol\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Le bleu de la rivi\u00e8re tournesol<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, a meditation on color and flow. <strong> St\u00e9phane Odrobinski<\/strong>\u2018s e-bow donates a haunted timbre (April 4). \u00a0Somnambulant loops create the backdrop for <strong>Aaron Landsman \/ Norman Westberg<\/strong>\u2018s\u00a0spoken word monologue about the <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/hallowground.bandcamp.com\/album\/aaron-landsman-norman-westberg-night-keeper\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Night Keeper<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, a study of insomnia based on the eponymous play. \u00a0\u201cWho else is awake?\u201d asks Jehan O. Reliquary<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, a collaborative album on which\u00a0<strong>Ben Shirken\u00a0<\/strong>is joined by a host of like-minded musicians, including MIZU. \u00a0The album comments on the ability of hard drives to preserve components of our existence as they inevitably break down (April 11). \u00a0<strong>Kara-Lis Coverdale\u00a0<\/strong>uses a wide array of orchestral instruments on <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/kara-liscoverdale.bandcamp.com\/album\/from-where-you-came-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">From Where You Came From<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, which also includes guest appearances from Anne Bourne and Kalia Vendever. \u00a0While the music is calm, we keep worrying about the woman on the cover (Smalltown Supersound, May 9).<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"120\" style=\"position: relative; display: block; width: 100%; height: 120px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/v=2\/album=241475315\/size=large\/bgcol=333333\/linkcol=ffffff\/tracklist=false\/artwork=small\/\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Metallic flute and jazz trumpet cast a spell on\u00a0<em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/andreastilliandergorankajfes.bandcamp.com\/album\/in-cmin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In Cmin<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, the title an homage to Terry Riley. \u00a0<strong>Andreas Tilliander and Goran Kajfe\u0161\u00a0<\/strong>compose tributes to the moon, the tides and the night, adding a slight electronic undercurrent (Kontra-Musik, April 7). \u00a0Jazz and ambience combine on the allusive <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/hxhexpanse.bandcamp.com\/album\/stark-phenomena\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stark Phenomena<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, released on KMRU\u2019s label OFNOT. \u00a0The duo\u00a0<strong>HxH\u00a0<\/strong>uses trumpet, cello, electronics and spoken word to weave a colorful tapestry (April 4). \u00a0Piano and saxophone create a tranquil sonic environment on <strong>Rindert Lammers<\/strong>\u2018 <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/rindertlammers.bandcamp.com\/album\/thank-you-kirin-kiki\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thank You Kirin Kiki<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, an ambient jazz set that takes the form of a film, from the trailer to the closing credits (Western Vinyl, April 18).<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"120\" style=\"position: relative; (April 23). \u00a0<b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/niteloops\" target=\"_blank&quot;\">nightloops<\/a><\/strong><\/b> is releasing the soothing\u00a0<em>hush\u00a0<\/em>EP on May 6, the lowercase letters a preview of the sound (Friends of Friends). \u00a0<strong>Praj\u00f1\u0101gho\u1e63a<\/strong>\u2018s ambient-electronic <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/intothedeeptreasury.bandcamp.com\/album\/prajnaghosa-flow-of-adhisthana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flow of Adhisthana<\/a><\/strong><\/em> chronicles an inner and outer journey with birds and beats, a placid undercurrent that carries the listener away (Into the Deep Treasury, April 1). \u00a0The compilation <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lightwerxcollective.bandcamp.com\/album\/into-calm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Into Calm<\/a><\/strong><\/em> does exactly what it promises as multiple artists from <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/stereominusone.bandcamp.com\/album\/dead-petals-at-the-other\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dead Petals at the Other<\/a><\/strong><\/em> is an ambient-electronic offering from <strong>Stereo Minus One<\/strong>. \u00a0The album investigates alternate realities in tracks such as \u201cAnother Me Is Probably Being Asked If He\u2019s Okay\u201d (Machine Records, May 2). \u00a0Lying on the border between ambient and electronic is <strong>Beatrice Dillon \/ Hideka Uwazama<\/strong>\u2018s <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/portraitsgrm.bandcamp.com\/album\/basho-still-forms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Basho \/ Still Forms<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, as each artist takes a different approach on a different side. \u00a0They share a love for percussion and an experimental approach (Portraits GRM, May 16).\u00a0 <strong>Inal Bilsel<\/strong>\u2018s\u00a0<em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inalbilsel.bandcamp.com\/album\/once-upon-a-cloudtop-meadow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Once Upon a Cloudtop Meadow<\/a><\/strong><\/em> is an album that looks and sounds like a storybook. \u00a0Be sure to check out the artwork for the individual tracks, as well as for the album itself. \u00a0A smooth melding of children\u2019s voices, cinematic strings, lullaby bells
