Okay. I know, I know…. Mojitos are cocktails that are usually associated with summertime, and backyard BBQ’s, and beach vacations. Not with fall time or apple season.<\/span><\/p>\n

But hear me out, you all…. It works. The white rum with your favorite apple cider and a little fresh mint and lime really works. Even I was surprised by how delicious this autumn twist on a classic mojito<\/a> turned out.<\/span><\/div>\n
Now, I can’t take all the credit for coming up with this cocktail idea. I actually tried an apple cider mojito at a local brewery<\/a> a couple months ago, and I knew I had to try to recreate it at home.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
Last month, we went apple picking<\/a> while my sister and my best friend from West Virginia were visiting us at our new home in Erie, Pennsylvania. When I spied the fresh pressed apple cider at the local apple orchard we stopped at, I picked up a half gallon to bring home just to test out my new fall cocktail idea. I am a firm believer that the best cocktails start with the freshest ingredients.<\/span><\/div>\n

You won’t need a lot of fancy bar equipment to make this cocktail at home, but you will need a couple of things:<\/span><\/p>\n

And that’s pretty much it! Don’t worry about buying the most fancy or expensive cocktail shaker and muddler. Even the more affordable sets will get the job done.<\/span><\/p>\n

Traditional mojito recipes<\/a> usually call for simple sugar as a sweetener, but since the apple cider already adds enough sweetness to this cocktail I opted to not add any.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

Of course, if you would prefer your mojito just a little sweeter, feel free to add in a splash of simple syrup or a little drizzle of honey or maple syrup before giving the cocktail shaker a shake.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You may be wondering we even bother to muddle the lime wedges and fresh mint before shaking this cocktail. There are a few of reasons for that actually:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. It helps release the oils from the mint leaves.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. It allows more of the fresh lime juice to be released into the cocktail.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Muddling helps these oils and the juice to better bind with the rum, making for a more cohesive and smooth-tasting mojito.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n
