Down with \u201clearnings\u201d!<\/b><\/strong><\/h2>\n

I\u2019m not a fan of pedantic expressions like \u201clearnings,\u201d so I was thrilled to read \u201cAn insightful alternative to the dreadful jargon \u2018learnings\u2019<\/a>\u00a0\u201d by Josh Bernoff.<\/p>\n

Bernoff says, \u201c\u2026a large proportion of your audience, when reading about \u2018learnings,\u2019 will tune out or resist. And that doesn\u2019t accomplish your goal of communicating without generating an emotional backlash.\u201d That\u2019s so true!<\/p>\n

He suggests \u201cinsights\u201d as a good substitute for \u201clearnings.\u201d For example, instead of saying, \u201cPlease write up your learnings<\/em> from the completion of the project in a memo,\u201d he suggests saying, \u201cPlease write up your insights<\/em> from the completion of the project in a memo.\u201d I like it.<\/p>\n

Another word that I hate is \u201cmitigate,\u201d as I\u2019ve discussed in \u201cBNY Mellon: I liked your \u2018truth ad\u2019 until you used that word<\/a>\u201d and \u201cCan you make a case for \u2018mitigate\u2019?<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n

You can use any squash, pumpkin, or sweet potatoes in this recipe. I used tetsukabuto squash<\/a> instead of butternut squash.<\/p>\n
