Celebrated Canadian Author Says Peace Out For Now, U.S.<\/h2>\n

Louise Penny, author of the award-winning Armand Gamache series<\/a> of murder mysteries, is bowing out of U.S. appearances in light of the current trade war happening between the U.S. and her home country, Canada. Penny, who\u2019s been touring the U.S. for the past two decades, said this in a statement posted to her site<\/a> and her Facebook<\/a>:<\/p>\n

I can hardly believe I\u2019m saying this, but given the ongoing threat of an unprovoked trade war against Canada by the US president, I do not feel I can enter the United States. At least not until that economic sword, that could throw hundreds of thousands of Canadians (as well as Americans) into poverty, is removed completely. There are, of course, other things the American president is doing that make visiting the USA unpalatable.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The U.S. is playing a terrible game of tariffs with countries including Canada, which is putting up a good fight<\/a>. Canada has removed U.S.-made alcohol from shelves<\/a> and threatened a tariff on electricity<\/a> sent to their neighbor in response to steep tariff threats from the White House (not to mention Trump\u2019s wild insistence that Canada become our 51st state). So, who could blame Penny? There are folks in the U.S. who wish they could boycott the U.S. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

More Anne Rice Adaptations Incoming?<\/h2>\n

When I think of Anne Rice adaptations, I think of how much I wanted to be Aaliyah in Queen of the Damned<\/a> when that much-panned adaptation hit the screens. That is not the news\u2013the news is that Anne Rice\u2019s estate has a new partnership<\/a> poised to make her ever adaptable works even more expansive and publicized. In case you didn\u2019t know, Rice\u2019s son, Christopher Rice, controls the estate\u2019s literary properties alongside fellow author Eric Shaw Quinn as Dinner Partners LLC. They\u2019ve signed with InkWell Management and Literate \u201cto promote the late author\u2019s available works across all media for series and film adaptations.\u201d I hear AMC\u2019s The Vampire Chronicles is VERY good and there\u2019s no shortage of works by Rice (under Anne Rice, Anne Rampling, and A.N. Roquelaure), so I\u2019m not mad at the news\u2013I just want to know which new adaptation I\u2019ll keep promising my bestie I\u2019ll watch only to avoid committing to yet another streaming platform.<\/p>\n

Terry Brooks Passes Shannara Series to Delilah S. Dawson<\/h2>\n

This year\u2019s Galaphile: The First Druids of Shannara<\/a> will be Terry Brooks\u2019 final Shannara novel. The prolific author announced his retirement at Emerald City Comic Con and that he was passing the Shannara series on<\/a> to the author of Guillotine<\/a> and host of Star Wars books, among other works. Brooks explained that he wasn\u2019t following the traditional route of passing series on posthumously because he wanted to see what came of it next, and it sounded like he might have a voice in Dawson\u2019s direction with the series. This wouldn\u2019t be the first time Dawson collaborated with another author\u2013Kill the Farm Boy<\/a> was co-authored by Kevin Hearne\u2013and she\u2019s similarly not new with spinning tales from existing, epic stories considering her work with the Star Wars franchise.<\/p>\n
