Let\u2019s run the so-called numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, <a href=\"https:\/\/903brewers.com\/\">903 Brewers<\/a> in Sherman looked to the local area code to identify their craft brewery, which has the advantage (or disadvantage) of forever tying it to a specific locale. This naming scheme would seem a natural default for at least one craft brewery in every area code, but in practice such brewery names are rare. The reasons may lie with previous attempts by Anheuser-Busch to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/anheuser-bush-312-trademark-area-code-2011-7\">trademark area code names<\/a> about a decade ago after they acquired <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gooseisland.com\/\">Goose Island Brewing<\/a> in Chicago (brewers of the popular 312 Urban Wheat Ale). The legal availability may simply not be there.<\/p>\n<p><em>Two <\/em>is a sneaky one, as only one previous brewery has ever explicitly used the numeral in their title. Named after the cultivar of barley used in brewing, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tworows.com\/\">TwoRows<\/a> was a Oklahoma-based brewpub chain that expanded into the Dallas and Houston areas but eventually closed just a decade or so ago (even though a couple of non-brewing locations remain open as simple fast-casual restaurants). Aside from that, <a href=\"https:\/\/twinpeaksrestaurant.com\/\">Twin Peaks<\/a> (unrelated to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0098936\/\">television show<\/a> of the early 1990s) operates its own chain of breastaurants with distributed brewing out of their Irving location, and <a href=\"https:\/\/secondrodeobrewing.com\/\">Second Rodeo Brewing<\/a> is doing well within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fortworthstockyards.org\/\">Fort Worth Stockyards<\/a>. And when <a href=\"https:\/\/anvilbrewingtexas.com\/\">Anvil Brewing<\/a> (based in Pittsburg, Texas, east of Dallas) decided to open a closer Metroplex site in Royse City, they named it a simple and direct <a href=\"https:\/\/anvilbrewingtexas.com\/royse-city\/\">Anvil Brewing No. 2<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201c<em>What\u2019s in a name? That which we call a hazy IPA by any other name would smell just as sweet<\/em>.\u201d \u2013 William Shakespeare (maybe)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Three <\/em>is somewhat the flavor of the month, with a couple of newly opened breweries favoring this number. Farmers Branch\u2013based <a href=\"https:\/\/3nationsbrewing.com\/\">3 Nations Brewing<\/a> (who remains frustratingly ambiguous by using both the numeral \u201c3\u201d and the full spelling \u201cThree\u201d interchangeably) only recently opened their second brewing location in <a href=\"https:\/\/3nationsbrewing.com\/anna\/\">Anna<\/a>, north of McKinney. Almost at the same time, the unrelated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/3EmpiresBrewing\/\">Three Empires Brewing<\/a> opened as the first brewery in Frisco, and <a href=\"https:\/\/3widebrewing.com\/\">Three Wide Brewing<\/a> (a NASCAR reference) is poised to open any day now near <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasmotorspeedway.com\/\">Texas Motor Speedway<\/a> in Fort Worth.<\/p>\n<p><em>Four<\/em> implies quadrilateral stability, as exemplified by the long-running old guard of <a href=\"https:\/\/fcbrewing.com\/\">Four Corners Brewing<\/a> in Dallas and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fourbulletsbrewery.com\/\">Four Bullets Brewing<\/a> (a poker reference) in Richardson. For a very brief time, the in-house brewing operations of Fair Park\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/craftandgrowler.com\/\">Craft &amp; Growler<\/a> was named 4 Elements Brewing (using the numeral) but ultimately rebranded itself as C&amp;G Brewing.<\/p>\n<p>Granbury\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/revolverbrewing.com\/av?url=https:\/\/revolverbrewing.com\/\">Revolver Brewing<\/a> (now owned by the MillerCoors subsidiary, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.molsoncoorsblog.com\/tag\/tenth-and-blake\">Tenth &amp; Blake<\/a>) created a pilot brewery and taproom when the <a href=\"https:\/\/texas-live.com\/\">Texas Live!<\/a> entertainment complex opened outside the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/rangers\">Texas Rangers<\/a>\u2018 new <a href=\"https:\/\/globelifefield.com\/\">Globe Life Field<\/a> in Arlington. Presumably named after its particular address, the small satellite brewery is formally named <a href=\"https:\/\/revolverbrewing.com\/arlington\">Revolver Brewing BLDG 5 Tap Room<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Six<\/em>? Nobody local names their craft brewery after six.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cedarcreekbrewery.com\/\">Cedar Creek Brewing<\/a> is located in Seven Points, south of Dallas and just across the reservoir from Gun Barrel City. And at its height, the long-running brewpub chain Humperdinks (now all closed) had a total of seven locations in the Dallas\/Fort Worth area.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edgewiseeight.com\/\">Edgewise Eight Brewing<\/a> in Weatherford takes its name from a visual pun on the infinity symbol, which resembles the reclining digit.<\/p>\n<p>Allen\u2019s Nine Band Brewing met an <a href=\"https:\/\/dallas.eater.com\/2021\/4\/22\/22397902\/nine-band-brewing-owner-keith-todd-ashley-murder-indictment-wire-fraud\">unfortunate and scandalous end<\/a> in the midst of the pandemic when its owner went to jail. However, the location has since been recently reborn as the quite successful but non-numerical <a href=\"https:\/\/armorbeer.com\/\">Armor Brewing<\/a>. <code><strong>PH<\/strong><\/code><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"wordads-inline-marker\" style=\"display: none;\"\/>\t\t\t<\/p><\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>American craft breweries seem to have a minor obsession with numbers.
