Here are my key resources and ways to start my vacation research:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #555555;\"><b>1. Save on airfare<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.skyscanner.ca\/flights-from\/ca\/cheap-flights-from-canada.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">I like using Skyscanner<\/a> (no affiliate) for deals. This site is a metasearch site for all major airline carriers. Navigation of this site is great and you can sign-up for automatic email notifications for price changes\/drops.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>Another great site to save money on airfare?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yowdeals.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Try Chris Myden\u2019s suite of sites<\/a> \u2013 YOW Deals for us (no affiliate).<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Save on accommodations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-slot-rendered-content=\"true\">Although I\u2019m a huge fan of cash back credit cards (I use one in particular consistently), I have in the past signed up for a few hotel rewards credit cards to earn points for future hotel stays. We never really got into the credit card churning hack \u2013 it\u2019s not like the companies don\u2019t know folks do this and we have better things to do with our time. We now have enough hotel points\/rewards for at least a week somewhere \u2013 destination to be determined! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Save on rental cars<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We like Costco for a few visits per year but Costco is also an online home to rental car deals. This has worked for me.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That also relates to this: more than half of the people surveyed by this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rbc.com\/newsroom\/news\/article.html?article=125971\">RBC Financial Flexibility Poll<\/a> described themselves as \u201cfinancially paralyzed,\u201d and 50 per cent said they are spending all of their income on necessary bills and expenses.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>Yikes.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>What do you make of this data?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>From Financial Independence Hub, <a href=\"https:\/\/findependencehub.com\/rational-utility-maximizing-consumption-vs-investing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a discussion about comsumption vs. investing.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Part of the thesis:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThere are no certainties in markets. Over shorter-term periods, you can diligently play the odds and still come up short, and you can bet against the odds and still get lucky. Even the best card counters regularly lose individual hands at the blackjack table. However, playing the odds will result in success over the long term.
