software like Blender, DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New RDNA 4 architecture promises better AI, ray tracing and video encoding performance<\/strong><br \/>The Radeon RX 9000 Series cards are the first GPUs to use AMD\u2019s new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amd.com\/en\/technologies\/rdna.html\" target=\"_blank\">RDNA 4<\/a> GPU architecture.<\/p>\n<p>It features improvements to all of the cards\u2019 hardware core types, including for general GPU compute, but particularly for AI operations and ray tracing, with AMD claiming that RDNA 4 provides \u201c2x the ray tracing throughput per compute unit\u201d compared to RDNA 3.<\/p>\n<p>For video processing, a new dual media engine promises to double throughput for AV1 encoding, and to improve the quality of AV1, H.264 by partner firms \u2013 there are no AMD reference cards \u2013 so clock speeds and power consumption will vary between models.<\/p>\n<p>However, their core specs are broadly comparable to the Radeon RX 7900 GRE \u2013 all are 16GB cards, and remain on GDDR6 memory \u2013 as are their recommended launch prices.<\/p>\n<p>Processor core core counts are actually down on the previous generation, though AMD is promising overall performance improvements due to the advances in GPU architecture.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Strong early reviews in the gaming press<\/strong><br \/>Early reviews of the Radeon RX 9000 Series cards in the gaming press have been positive, with many contrasting the <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.pcmag.com\/graphics-cards\/156981\/nvidias-rtx-5070-was-in-stock-on-launch-day-but-at-terrible-prices\" target=\"_blank\">launch troubles<\/a> and <a comparisons are for games, although its launch materials do include a few benchmarks for AI.<\/p>\n<p>That includes both generative AI models and the AI tools in CG applications.<\/p>\n<p>The slide above shows the Radeon RX 9070 XT outperforming the previous-gen Radeon RX 7900 GRE by 12-17% in AI-based tools in Adobe\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adobe.com\/products\/photoshop-lightroom-classic.html\" target=\"_blank\">Lightroom Classic<\/a> photo editor and by 20-34% in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackmagicdesign.com\/products\/davinciresolve\" target=\"_blank\">DaVinci Resolve<\/a>, Blackmagic Design\u2019s video editing, compositing and VFX software.<\/p>\n<p>The figures are based on Puget Systems\u2019 standard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pugetsystems.com\/pugetbench\/creators\/\" target=\"_blank\">PugetBench<\/a> tests.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Independent reviews include scores for Blender and Premiere Pro<\/strong><br \/>Some early reviews also include benchmarks for CG apps, although their conclusions are mixed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tomshardware.com\/pc-components\/gpus\/amd-radeon-rx-9070-xt-review\/7\" target=\"_blank\">Tom\u2019s Hardware<\/a> shows the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 outperforming NVIDIA\u2019s GeForce RTX 5070 and 4070 in the synthetic <a href=\"https:\/\/gwpg.spec.org\/benchmarks\/benchmark\/specworkstation-4_0\/\" target=\"_blank\">SPECworkstation 4.0<\/a> benchmark, both in the <a href=\"https:\/\/handbrake.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\">HandBrake<\/a> video transcoding test, and for average viewport performance across a range of apps, including Blender.<\/p>\n<p>However, for rendering, the GeForce RTX 5070 and 4070 outperformed both the Radeon RX 9000 Series GPUs in the <a href=\"https:\/\/opendata.blender.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Blender benchmark<\/a> itself.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcworld.com\/article\/2627008\/amd-radeon-rx-9070-and-9070-xt-review.html\" target=\"_blank\">PC World\u2019s review<\/a> also notes that the GeForce RTX 5070 \u201cabsolutely stomped\u201d the Radeon RX 9000 Series cards in the PugetBench Premiere Pro benchmark.<\/p>\n<p>For DCC work, it\u2019s also important to note that some GPU render engines, including Arnold GPU, OctaneRender and V-Ray GPU, use NVIDIA APIs, and are not accelerated on AMD graphics cards.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Price and availability<\/strong><br \/>AMD\u2019s Radeon RX 9000 Series GPUs became available on 6 March 2025 through partner firms including Acer, ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte, PowerColor, Sapphire, Vastarmor, XFX and Yeston. <\/p>\n<p>The Radeon RX 9070 XT has a MSRP of $599, and
