It was definitely a surprise given my not-so-favorable relationship with one of its primary ingredients. Coconut and I don\u2019t always get along, especially when consumed fresh or shaved, but there is one exception.<\/p>\n<p>Toasted coconut and it\u2019s nutty flavor just seems to work too well for me when its part of a rich porter or stout. And that\u2019s exactly what\u2019s going on with Fistful of Cake. This 9% ABV imperial stout features a smooth array of toasted coconut, Ugandan vanilla bean and cocoa \u2013 all added lovingly to a solid base brew. The big beer is decadent without becoming cloying and presents a flavor profile that is incredibly smooth and well balanced. Each element works in wonderful unison with the rest.<\/p>\n<p>Fistful of Cake is a beer that serves nicely as an after-dinner treat, drinking with deceptive ease for its alcohol content. The beer\u2019s overall balance is key to that experience. The flavor is impeccable and simply works (especially for my finicky tastebuds) while the mouthfeel and lightly warming finish are more than appropriate for a beer of this style. It\u2019s hard to find anything wrong with this beer really. It\u2019s stupid good.<\/p>\n<p><em>This is a review of a promotional sample.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"\">&#13;<\/p>\n<h3>Appearance<\/h3>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>A thin head of dark brown foam disappears quickly atop the opaque, black stout. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<h3>Aroma<\/h3>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Super soft coconut, smooth vanilla, gentle roast, espresso notes. Smells smooth. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<h3>Taste<\/h3>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Incredibly smooth. Light sweetness. Vanilla, coconut and cocoa all work together seamlessly. Super well balanced and tasty. Full bodied.
