This applies especially to implementations, audits, configurations, and reporting. So when I\u2019m faced with a menial, manual task that might take hours for me to complete if done by hand, I always look at what could be done with some scripting and API work. I want to introduce a couple of <a href=\"https:\/\/sheets.google.com\/\">Google Sheets<\/a> add-ons I\u2019ve written and released to the public. They both automate tasks which I found completely ridiculous to do by hand.<\/p>\n<div style=\"aspect-ratio: 981 \/ 368;\" class=\"figure nocaption\">\n<p>    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simoahava.com\/images\/2017\/08\/google-analytics-add-ons.jpg\" title=\"Google Analytics add-ons for Google Sheets\"><\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"fig-img\" height=\"368\" width=\"981\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.simoahava.com\/images\/2017\/08\/google-analytics-add-ons.jpg#ZgotmplZ\" alt=\"Google Analytics add-ons for Google Sheets\"\/><\/p>\n<p>    <\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The two add-ons, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simoahava.com\/tools\/google-analytics-validator\/\">Google Analytics Validator<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simoahava.com\/tools\/google-analytics-custom-dimension-manager\/\">Google Analytics Custom Dimension Manager<\/a>, are unofficial, free-to-use, and open-source. They were created initially for my own benefit alone, but at some point I wondered if others might find them useful, too. That\u2019s why I ended up publishing them.<\/p>\n<p>                <span class=\"simmer\"><br \/>\n  <span class=\"close\">X<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n    <span class=\"fa fa-md fa-bell\"\/><br \/>\n    <strong>The Simmer Newsletter<\/strong>\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    Subscribe to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simoahava.com\/newsletter\/\">Simmer newsletter<\/a> to get the latest news and content from Simo Ahava into your email inbox!\n  <\/p>\n<p>  <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"google-analytics-validator\">Google Analytics Validator<\/h2>\n<p>You can add <strong>Google Analytics Validator<\/strong> to Google Sheets via <a href=\"https:\/\/chrome.google.com\/webstore\/detail\/google-analytics-validato\/nmjiiaaejkhpegmcpfaehmbijgoilimo?utm_source=permalink\">this link<\/a>, and you can access the open-source code in <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/sahava\/ga-validator-apps-script\">this GitHub repo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"aspect-ratio: 1088 \/ 498;\" class=\"figure nocaption\">\n<p>    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simoahava.com\/images\/2017\/08\/last-7-days-data.jpg\" title=\"Last 7 days data\"><\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"fig-img\" height=\"498\" width=\"1088\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.simoahava.com\/images\/2017\/08\/last-7-days-data.jpg#ZgotmplZ\" alt=\"Last 7 days data\"\/><\/p>\n<p>    <\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Google Analytics Validator has three purposes:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>You can use it to create a sheet with a master list of all the accounts, properties, and views your Google ID has access to.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>From this list, you can then choose any number of properties\/views for Custom Dimension analysis. This means that a new sheet is built, with the <strong>name<\/strong>, <strong>scope<\/strong>, and <strong>active<\/strong> status of all the Custom Dimensions created for each property.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Finally, you can fetch the number of hits collected in the <strong>last 7 days<\/strong> for any selected view. This tells you if there are Custom Dimensions that haven\u2019t collected any data recently.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>It\u2019s a simple tool, but it should give you some insight to how Custom Dimensions are aligned across all your accounts, properties, and views.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"google-analytics-custom-dimension-manager\">Google Analytics Custom Dimension Manager<\/h2>\n<p>You can add <strong>Google Analytics Custom Dimension Manager<\/strong> to Google Sheets via <a href=\"https:\/\/chrome.google.com\/webstore\/detail\/google-analytics-custom-d\/ogcaloflfbimfnpkkfpfddocaegdmgkk?utm_source=permalink\">this link<\/a>, and you can access the open-source code in <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/sahava\/ga-custom-dimension-manager\">this GitHub repo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"aspect-ratio: 996 \/ 670;\" class=\"figure nocaption\">\n<p>    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simoahava.com\/images\/2017\/08\/update-or-skip.jpg\" title=\"Update or skip\"><\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"fig-img\" height=\"670\" width=\"996\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.simoahava.com\/images\/2017\/08\/update-or-skip.jpg#ZgotmplZ\" alt=\"Update or skip\"\/><\/p>\n<p>    <\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Google Analytics Custom Dimension Manager lets you mass update Custom Dimensions in any account\/property you have required access rights to. The values that you use to update\/create the dimensions with are populated in a special Source Data sheet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTE!<\/strong> There\u2019s a limit of 500 write requests per day for this project. Naturally, this is nowhere near enough to cater to multiple users who might be using the add-on. I am applying for an increase in the quota, but if this tool is something you\u2019ll need consistently, you might want to grab the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/sahava\/ga-custom-dimension-manager\">open-source code<\/a> and recreate the add-on as a project of your own.<\/p>\n<p>This should save you some time if you need to update 200 dimensions across multiple properties, for example.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"feedback\">Feedback<\/h2>\n<p>If you want to leave me feedback, you can do it either via email (simo at simoahava.com), or you can open an issue in either GitHub repo.
