As part of the retaliatory measures, Canada has also imposed 25% tariffs on imports from the US, including spirits, wine and beer.<\/p>\n
The Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau, said: \u201cTariffs will disrupt an incredibly successful trading relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n
Following the announcement, Brown-Forman\u2019s chief executive Lawson Whiting described Canada\u2019s retaliation as \u201cdisproportionate\u201d to the levies.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s worse than a tariff because it\u2019s literally taking your sales away, completely removing our products from the shelves,\u201d Whiting told the media.<\/p>\n
But added that the company would be able to withstand the hit as Canada accounted for only 1% of total sales.<\/p>\n
He added that Brown-Forman would be paying close attention to Mexico which made up 7% of total sales last year.<\/p>\n
