The one-year-old streaming service fresh off a <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/friends-reunion-hbo-max-5-things-we-loved\" target=\"_self\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\">highly anticipated <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/friends-reunion-hbo-max-5-things-we-loved\" target=\"_self\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\"><em>Friends<\/em><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/friends-reunion-hbo-max-5-things-we-loved\" target=\"_self\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\"> reunion special<\/a> will now offer two tiers of subscription: One with ads, and one without.<\/p>\n<p>HBO Max is currently $14.99\/month with no ads, but will now offer users an option for $9.99\/month with ads. New and returning subscribers can now also pay per year to save 15% ($99.99\/year with ads or $149.99\/year without).<\/p>\n<p>In a press release, HBO Max promised no more than four minutes of ads per hour of programming, (industry standard is closer to 20). HBO originals will still play without ads, and all ads will become more personalized over time.<\/p>\n<section x-data=\"window.newsletter()\" x-init=\"init()\" class=\"relative p-8 my-12 mx-auto w-full max-w-3xl border md:p-12 md:my-16 border-secondary-300\" data-ga-impression=\"\" data-ga-category=\"newsletters\" data-ga-module=\"incontent_nl_signup\" data-ga-label=\"top-stories\">\n<p>\n            Mashable Top Stories\n        <\/p>\n<\/section>\n<p>While it does include access to HBO Max&#8217;s entire, extensive library, the ad-supported tier will cap video quality at 1080p and restrict users from downloading content.
