{"id":114162,"date":"2025-02-27T22:42:36","date_gmt":"2025-02-27T22:42:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peraltafinancing.com\/activist\/israeli-defense-minister-addresses-west-bank-situation\/"},"modified":"2025-02-27T22:42:36","modified_gmt":"2025-02-27T22:42:36","slug":"israeli-defense-minister-addresses-west-bank-situation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fivemor.com\/?p=114162","title":{"rendered":"Israeli Defense Minister Addresses West Bank Situation"},"content":{"rendered":" \r\n<br><div>\n\n                                        \n\n\n<p><strong><em>Israeli tanks are now operating in the occupied West Bank for the first time since 2002<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.vn\/JO09S\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said Sunday<\/a>\u00a0that the Israeli military has forcibly displaced\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.vn\/Q839Y\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">40,000 Palestinians<\/a>\u00a0in the northern occupied West Bank and that they couldn\u2019t return home as the IDF will be operating in the area over the next year,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aje.io\/suj18c?update=3533109\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">raising fears<\/a>\u00a0of a new ethnic cleansing campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Israeli military launched the current operation in the West Bank, dubbed \u201cIron Wall,\u201d on January 21. It has been focused on the northern cities of Jenin and Tulkarm but has spread elsewhere in the occupied territory. In a new escalation,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/world\/amid-growing-crackdown-israeli-tanks-enter-occupied-west-bank-for-the-first-time-since-2002\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Israeli tanks entered the West Bank<\/a>\u00a0on Sunday for the first time since 2002.<\/p><div class=\"g g-1\"><div class=\"g-single a-10\"><a class=\"gofollow\" data-track=\"MTAsMSwxLDYw\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chemicalfreebody.com\/macro\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\" height=\"334\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.activistpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/GREEN-85-400x334-1.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Katz said in a statement that he ordered the Israeli military \u201cto prepare for an extended stay in the camps that have been cleared for the coming year, and not to allow residents to return.\u201d The Israeli Defense Minister believes this move will secure the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/news.antiwar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/2025-02-23T165402Z_2036929034_RC2G0DAZIBB6_RTRMADP_3_ISRAEL-PALESTINIANS-WEST-BANK-TANKS-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/news.antiwar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/2025-02-23T165402Z_2036929034_RC2G0DAZIBB6_RTRMADP_3_ISRAEL-PALESTINIANS-WEST-BANK-TANKS-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-152276\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><sup>An Israeli tank operates during an Israeli operation in Jenin, in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, on February 23, 2025. We will continue to clear refugee camps and other terrorist centers in order to dismantle the [militant] battalions and terrorist infrastructures of extremist Islam that were built,\u201d Katz added. The Israeli Defense Minister maintained that these efforts are necessary for security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tank deployment into the West Bank came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered an escalation in the occupied territory following the bombing of empty buses in the Israeli city of Bat Yam near Tel Aviv. Israeli officials blamed West Bank resistance groups for the attack, and a note was left that said \u201crevenge from Tulkarm.\u201d However, two Jewish Israelis\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.haaretz.com\/israel-news\/2025-02-21\/ty-article\/.premium\/shin-bet-arrests-two-israelis-suspected-of-involvement-in-tel-aviv-suburbs-bus-bombs\/00000195-2831-d293-a1d5-ee37eacd0000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">were arrested\u00a0<\/a>over their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ynetnews.com\/article\/rkh500ascje\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">alleged involvement in the bombing<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the UN, more than 50 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank since the new operation was launched last month. The dead include many civilians and children as the Israeli military\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.antiwar.com\/2025\/02\/10\/israel-expands-open-fire-order-in-west-bank-resulting-in-surge-of-civilian-killings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">expanded an \u201copen fire order\u201d<\/a>\u00a0in the occupied territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Friday,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dci-palestine.org\/israeli_forces_fatally_shoot_two_young_palestinian_children_in_the_back_in_the_occupied_west_bank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">two Palestinian children were killed by Israeli troops<\/a>\u00a0in the West Bank. Rimas al-Amouri, a 13-year-old girl, was shot in the back while standing in the courtyard of her family home in Jenin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ayman Nassar Taysir al-Hemouni, a 12-year-old boy, was also shot in the back while standing near the home of a family member in the southern West Bank city of Hebron. Both al-Hemouni and al-Amouri were shot by Israeli troops who were inside armored vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel\u2019s escalations in the West Bank have also involved the destruction of infrastructure, including roads and homes, mirroring the strategies of the IDF in Gaza. When \u201cIron Wall\u201d was first launched,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.antiwar.com\/2025\/01\/23\/shin-bet-says-israels-multi-front-war-is-now-focused-on-the-west-bank\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Katz said<\/a>\u00a0the Israeli military was applying \u201clessons\u201d that it had learned in Gaza.
