Terri Sewell, AL-07, on Tuesday voted against House Republicans\u2019 budget plan. \u201cThe proposal calls for historic cuts to health care while paving the way for $2 trillion in tax cuts for billionaires and big corporations,\u201d Sewell\u2019s release stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cTo rip health care away from millions of Americans in order to give tax cuts to the very wealthy is unconscionable,\u201d\u00a0said Rep. Sewell.\u00a0\u201cThe people we represent sent us to Congress to improve their lives, not pad the pockets of Trump, Musk, and their billionaire friends. This budget is a betrayal of Alabama families, and I voted hell no!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">House Republicans\u2019 budget calls for $880 billion in cuts to Medicaid, which could threaten more than one million Alabamians and the health care providers that serve them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">More than 20 percent of all Alabamians rely on Medicaid, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s3\">45.4 percent\u00a0of all children<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s3\">45 percent\u00a0of moms giving birth and their newborn babies<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s3\">35.2 percent\u00a0of working-age adults with disabilities<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s3\">68 percent\u00a0of people living in nursing homes<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s3\">20 percent of Medicare beneficiaries<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s3\">12.7 percent\u00a0of adults aged 19-64<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Cuts to Medicaid can also devastate Alabama\u2019s hospitals, community health centers, nursing homes, and home health providers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">More information on Medicaid\u2019s impact on Alabama is available\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sewell.house.gov\/_cache\/files\/0\/e\/0e7ca5e4-0129-4c01-8161-038475e51de5\/8A30E4FF89EE3C51303FDA81F2968447.al-2025.02.05-medicaid-state-fact-sheet-2.0.pdf\"><span class=\"s4\">here<\/span><\/a>, courtesy of the House Energy and Commerce Committee Minority.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- CONTENT END 1 -->\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>U.S. Rep.
