Dental services, opticians, audiology services, chiropody, chiropractors, osteopaths and other medical or health services, including services relating to mental health.<\/p>\n<p>I am listed for all therapies I practice on the\u00a0FHT Complementary Healthcare Therapist Register, which has been accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care, a body accountable to Parliament.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>So I <i>should<\/i> be allowed to open, and various Professional Associations have discussed this clause with BEIS\u00a0(Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy) and received conformation that under certain circumstances, Massage and other Therapeutic Services will be recognised as permitted. However, there is some disagreement within the Complementary Healthcare sector (eg between different Professional Associations) about how to interpret this legislation, and what the criteria are.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span><a name=\"more\"\/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This is excerpts of the advice of the FHT, my own Professional Association:<\/p>\n<div><\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: Cambria, Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif; font-size: 14.6667px;\">\n<p><strong>Providing treatments\u00a0during lockdown\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: Cambria, Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif; font-size: 14.6667px;\">\n<p>Due to the national restrictions introduced\u00a0in England\u00a0on 5 November, the first thing we would like\u00a0to emphasise is that\u00a0it\u00a0is\u00a0not\u00a0&#8216;business as usual&#8217;\u00a0for\u00a0all of\u00a0our members\u00a0and their clients.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div style=\"background-color: white; color: #666666; font-family: Cambria, Georgia, &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif; font-size: 14.6667px;\">\n<p>Until\u00a0the national restrictions are lifted,\u00a0members should\u00a0only support clients who have a\u00a0genuine\u00a0health condition\/medical need.\u00a0This\u00a0might include,\u00a0for example, clients who\u00a0have a health condition or injury\u00a0that is currently causing them pain or mobility\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">issues<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">or<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">is\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">impact<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">i<wbr\/>ng<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">their quality of life<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>It is important that members assess their clients&#8217; needs\u00a0on a\u00a0case by case\u00a0basis,\u00a0prior to\u00a0seeing them,\u00a0to\u00a0determine if treatment is appropriate\u00a0at this time. In the\u00a0<span class=\"il\">FHT<\/span>&#8216;s opinion, it would not be appropriate, for example, to treat clients\u00a0for\u00a0health\u00a0complaints or\u00a0injuries that are minor or self-limiting (which improve on their own) or\u00a0for\u00a0general stress relief,\u00a0relaxation\u00a0or\u00a0<wbr\/>preventative\u00a0healthcare\u00a0<wbr\/>purposes.\u00a0While\u00a0we\u00a0fully\u00a0appre<wbr\/>ciate\u00a0the importance of supporting clients for these\u00a0reasons,\u00a0the focus\u00a0should be\u00a0on treating clients\u00a0with\u00a0essential\u00a0health needs\u00a0during the national restrictions.\u00a0For those who have less urgent health needs, please defer their treatments\u00a0until\u00a0after\u00a03 December and offer them some self-care advice\u00a0or remote support to\u00a0help them\u00a0in the meantime&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Please note that when treating someone who has a medical health condition,\u00a0we\u00a0strongly recommend that\u00a0members ask their client to seek\u00a0consent from\u00a0their\u00a0GP\u00a0or other health professional responsible for their care. If consent is obtained verbally by the client, it is important to make a note of this on\u00a0their\u00a0record.\u00a0If\u00a0the client is\u00a0unable to obtain consent,\u00a0for whatever reason,\u00a0then\u00a0ultimately it comes down to your individual risk assessment of that client and your professional judgement as to\u00a0whether or not\u00a0it is safe to go ahead with the treatment.
