Ever been talked into an adventure? You’re not alone!

We hear it all the time: someone mentions a trip over coffee, a friend shares their incredible experience, and before you know it, you’re signed up for a challenge you never thought you’d take on.

In fact, 18% of people who travelled with us in 2024 did so because a friend recommended us, and 14% because a mate convinced them to take the leap and join them. That’s the power of adventure; it’s contagious!

This aligns with other travel trends we’re seeing, where word-of-mouth has been shown to improve customer trust in brands by up to 92% and increase the likelihood of booking by over 50%. It’s one thing to see an epic adventure on social media, but it’s another to hear a first-hand, real-life story from someone you trust.

So, if you’ve been trying to talk a friend into a challenge (or if they’ve been working on you!), this might just be your sign to say yes.

The Stories That Inspire Action

There’s something about hearing a first-hand experience that makes an adventure feel real and achievable. Maybe a friend returned from cycling to Paris, raving about the incredible sense of achievement and the unforgettable Champs-Élysées finish. Or a colleague casually mentioned their bucket-list trek to Kilimanjaro, and suddenly, you’re looking up trips.

Unsurprisingly, 67% of travellers say recommendations from friends or family have the biggest impact on their travel decisions. Adventure isn’t just about seeing new places – it’s about the memories you make along the way, and the best ones are often shared.

We’ve heard countless stories of people who signed up after a friend’s recommendation:

🏕️ Charity fundraisers who trained, trekked and crossed the finish line together.
🚴‍♂️ Cycling partners who signed up solo and left with a whole new riding crew.
🌍 Solo adventurers who found their people on the trail and now plan trips together every year.

Some of the best friendships begin at the start line of a challenge, and some are forged through the tough miles, high-altitude treks, and shared victories along the way.

So, if you’re one of the 14% of people who got talked into an adventure, or if you’re the one doing the convincing – you’re in great company!

Why Adventure is Better Together

Sure, solo travel has its magic; we’re big advocates for it, and taking on a challenge alone is an incredible way to build resilience and independence. But there’s something undeniably special about sharing those WOW moments with someone else:

🚴 The boost of motivation when you need it most – whether it’s the final stretch of a ride or that last push to the summit, there’s nothing like a teammate’s encouragement to keep you going.

📸 The best kind of memories to look back on – reliving those incredible sunrises, epic descents, and hard-earned finish lines is even better when you can say “remember when we…”

🏔️ The little moments in between – from celebrating a day’s achievement over dinner to the shared jokes and camaraderie that make every mile more meaningful.

!["IMG-20240426-WA0207-1"]("https://blog.discoveradventure.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Hanna%20Pepe%20-%20Start%20your%20Story/IMG-20240426-WA0207-1.jpeg?width=1536&height=1536&name=IMG-20240426-WA0207-1.jpeg")
