Whether you are a meat-eater, flexitarian or vegan person, we can all agree that the vegan meats on the market these days are OUTSTANDING! They replicate the texture and the taste of animal-flesh meats, for those who enjoy that, but they also are delectable food products of their own, and have expanded with so many brands and varieties becoming available in the past handful of years. For whatever \u201cmeat\u201d you wish to eat that doesn\u2019t inflict animal cruelty or great harm to the environment, there is a plant-based meat for you!<\/p>\n<p>From sausages, to burgers, to chicken strips, to deli slices to seafood to so much more, there\u2019s no reason not to eat some veggie meats and be delightfully satisfied and impressed. Also, no cholesterol and good amounts of protein \u2013 because plants have protein! These meats are made of a variety of plant proteins, including gluten, peas, tapioca, beans, coconut, oats and more.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the limited space in this one hour radio show (although an extended podcast is posted above), we can\u2019t interview all the vegan entrepreneurs who have set out to provide delicious plant-based meats for the Planet,\u00a0 but we\u2019d like to do a shout-out of some of our favourite vegan meats that we recommend. Based in Victoria, BC, with a butchery and restaurant coming next year to Vancouver!<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gardein.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gardein<\/a> \u2013 love the 7 Grain Chicken Tenders and Chipotle Lime Chicken Tenders, but they have so much more! Borne in Vancouver (well, Richmond).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/fieldroast.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Field Roast<\/a> \u2013 must-eat: the Apple Sage Sausages and their Chao cheese slices.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.happyveggieworld.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Happy Veggie World<\/a> (or a vegan Chinese meat maker near you) \u2013 the delicious chicken drumsticks. Based in Richmond, BC.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tofurky.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tofurky<\/a> \u2013 the sausages (our long-time favourite is the Italian), the deli slices (Hickory Smoked and Black Pepper are our faves!), and of course, the seasonal Tofurky Vegan Holiday Roast (with Ham Roasts available year round).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.themodernmeat.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Modern Meat<\/a> \u2013 Vancouver company making vegan burgers, meatballs, crab cakes and more.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/gustafoods.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gusta<\/a> \u2013 Qu\u00e9bec-based company featuring delicious sausages and more! Must try the Montr\u00e9alais and Smoked Paprika Artisan vegan sausages!<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/yvesveggie.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yves Veggie Cuisine<\/a> \u2013 an old favourite, started in Vancouver. They each make up half of a young company called \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/verygoodbutchers.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Very Good Butchers<\/a>\u201c, which is based in our province\u2019s capital of Victoria, BC. These two are not your typical animal flesh butchers, however. They are actually butchers of beans!<\/p>\n<p>The Very Good Butchers are an emerging plant-based food technology company that designs, develops, produces, distributes and sells a variety of plant-based meat and other food alternatives. Seth is based in Washington State, and is the Founder and Chairman of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tofurky.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Tofurky Company<\/a>, having started in the business in 1980. What additionally makes his story unique is that he came from a background of no business acumen \u2013 he was just a self-described \u201cidealistic hippie\u201d who lived in a tree house, and had the idea of bringing healthy, eco-friendly, tasty plant-based protein to the world.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 40 years, and many mistakes later, using his unconventional approach to business paired with his faith in his products and a deep belief in environmental causes, he has transformed the $2500 startup into a family-owned global brand worth over a hundred million dollars! Seth has recently published an incredible storytelling book called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Tofurky-Story-Pioneered-Plant-Based-Dinner\/dp\/1635766532\/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&amp;keywords=in+search+of+the+wild+tofurky&amp;qid=1595503477&amp;s=books&amp;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In Search of the Wild Tofurky: How a Business Misfit Pioneered Plant-Based Foods Before They Were Cool<\/a>\u201c.<\/p>\n<p>In this interview, Seth tells us about his now 40 year journey of having a dream to feed the people with plant-based meat alternatives, and pushing through to achieve that goal and more than he had ever imagined. Seth is a pioneer in paving the way for the vegan food industry, which now provides so many options, and he has much knowledge to share.
