Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and United States President Donald Trump have an ever-widening rift. They are now trading vocal jabs with Zelensky, accusing Trump of spreading Russian disinformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a press conference after a high-level meeting between American and Russian officials in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday, Trump suggested that Zelensky\u2019s approval rating in Ukraine is 4%. This upset Zelensky, who replied that the U.S. ruler was only restating Russian disinformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump claimed that Ukrainians are frustrated at the absence of elections in the country due to Zelensky\u2019s declaration of martial law. \u201cI hate to say it, but he\u2019s down at 4% approval.\u201d<\/p>

<\/a><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Zelensky\u2019s presidential term expired last year, and,\u00a0according to a report by\u00a0RT,<\/em><\/a>\u00a0he has not transferred authority to the parliament speaker, as mandated by the Ukrainian Constitution.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zelensky has argued that holding an election under the current circumstances is both legally and technically infeasible, and that Ukrainians would oppose it amid the conflict with Russia. He also claimed that if an election were held, he would secure a second term. Recent opinion polls, however, suggest that he would lose to retired General Valery Zaluzhny in a runoff. \u2013RT<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KMIS) (run by Ukraine\u2019s ruling class) said on Wednesday that in a survey conducted in January, 57% of Ukrainians expressed trust in Zelensky, an increase from 54% the previous month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zelensky\u00a0noted that Ukrainian officials \u201care aware of this\u00a0disinformation<\/a>\u00a0and recognize that it is coming from Russia\u201d\u00a0without providing specific sources. He stressed that\u00a0\u201cif anyone wants to replace me right now, it\u2019s not going to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials within the Russian ruling class have expressed some concern regarding Zelensky\u2019s legitimacy as Ukraine\u2019s ruler. Any international treaties he signs could be challenged, and Moscow has indicated a willingness to negotiate peace with Zelensky yet remains skeptical of his ability to finalize any agreements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The U.S. had pulled much of the funding from Ukraine<\/a>\u00a0for its war efforts, which will hopefully lead to the end of the conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
