Daley, the dean of Harvard Medical School, PETA has uncovered that an alarming number of his papers have been flagged by other scientists for possibly containing manipulated and unreliable data.<\/p>\n<p data-beyondwords-marker=\"239d2894-0856-43f0-aa4a-1ad0d33e3436\">Daley has had <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/30559458\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">one paper retracted<\/a>\u2014a rare move\u2014 several corrected, and ten flagged for concern due to spliced or duplicated images. Despite this, he has gobbled up more than $55 million in taxpayer money for his experiments.<\/p>\n<figure data-beyondwords-marker=\"8c93e7db-54f4-423c-ac3e-9ace799e696c\" class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/harvard-protest.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"602\" height=\"501\" src=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/harvard-protest-602x501.jpg\" alt=\"Harvard protest\" class=\"wp-image-1078998\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/harvard-protest-602x501.jpg 602w, https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/harvard-protest-300x250.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/harvard-protest-768x639.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/harvard-protest-150x125.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/harvard-protest.jpg 1165w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 602px) 100vw, 602px\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p data-beyondwords-marker=\"5aa91523-843a-4c19-ae54-df9817ec5570\">PETA is urging Harvard\u2019s scientific integrity office and the U.S. Office of Research Integrity to investigate Daley\u2019s laboratory for research misconduct and determine whether his images and data were deliberately and intentionally manipulated before being published in scientific journals.<\/p>\n<h3 data-beyondwords-marker=\"0091c489-4d67-43a8-a3b0-8d1c358ce471\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Manipulated Data Begets Real Animal Misery?<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-beyondwords-marker=\"c7a237b5-4e62-46d0-aca5-a031d22a4eaf\">Daley and his staff subject mice to numerous gruesome and deadly experiments. They include breeding mice to develop kidney dysfunction before cutting the kidneys out of their tiny diseased bodies and feeding mice high-fat diets to cause fatty liver disease, diabetes, and obesity.<\/p>\n<p data-beyondwords-marker=\"ffbf34cd-0f3a-46c8-9287-0de3904075d0\">In other experiments, Daley\u2019s staff irradiate mice, drill holes into their bones, and inject them with cancerous cells to create tumors. Most of the mice in Daley\u2019s laboratory are killed, often when they are just babies.<\/p>\n<h3 data-beyondwords-marker=\"d1afb2fa-016f-4624-b0f3-d3c8b556faa8\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Leading By Example<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-beyondwords-marker=\"09a500b6-d8f0-4684-a84f-54b2554834c6\">Many other Harvard Medical School experimenters have stuffed their fair share of scandalous skeletons in their laboratory closets.<\/p>\n<p data-beyondwords-marker=\"ba274704-b609-40d1-b4da-977d0e4e8207\">Just over a year ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/blog\/experimenting-on-baby-monkeys-and-allegedly-falsifying-data\/\">five university-affiliated animal experimenters<\/a> were accused of lying in published work and were investigated for manipulating data and plagiarizing images, leading to multiple papers being retracted.<\/p>\n<figure data-beyondwords-marker=\"9570c75f-5164-420a-b34e-cfc48013625b\" data-media-credits=\"[{&quot;credit&quot;:&quot; Figure 2 in Triggers for Mother Love&quot;,&quot;credit_link&quot;:&quot;https:\\\/\\\/www.pnas.org\\\/doi\\\/full\\\/10.1073\\\/pnas.2212224119&quot;},{&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;Margaret S. Nearly 400 doctors, academics, lawyers, and scientists\u2014 including <a href=\"https:\/\/animal.law.harvard.edu\/news-article\/cruel-monkey-experiments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">esteemed primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall<\/a>\u2014 have called for an end to Livingstone\u2019s pointless tax-funded torment.<\/p>\n<h3 data-beyondwords-marker=\"90601035-bc73-43bf-b54b-b478cdccbcb7\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What You Can Do<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-beyondwords-marker=\"a525876b-f425-4937-99ff-f7eab2f516f3\">Killing animals for ineffective experiments is already despicable. But harming animals simply to pass off apparently manipulated data and get your name published while raking in millions of tax dollars is appallingly beyond the pale.<\/p>\n<p data-beyondwords-marker=\"2b621aa1-f704-46d4-b266-bafd22fd1ba9\">Harvard needs to shut down all cruel and pointless experiments on animals, starting with Margaret Livingstone\u2019s sickening baby monkey experiments.
