Not that Apple itself is averse to AI integrations \u2014 the latest <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imore.com\/ios\/ios-18-rumored-features-supported-devices-and-more\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.imore.com\/ios\/ios-18-rumored-features-supported-devices-and-more\"><u>iOS 18<\/u><\/a> release is set to get an update that will include baked-in access to ChatGPT and OpenAI tech.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But iPhones, including the brand new <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imore.com\/iphone\/iphone-16-release-date-rumors-news-and-more\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.imore.com\/iphone\/iphone-16-release-date-rumors-news-and-more\"><u>iPhone 16<\/u><\/a> and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imore.com\/iphone\/iphone-16-pro-release-date-rumors-news-and-more\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.imore.com\/iphone\/iphone-16-pro-release-date-rumors-news-and-more\"><u>iPhone 16 Pro<\/u><\/a>, still make use of AI as a feature rather than a product unto itself, and that will be the differentiating factor for this new device. OpenAI will be at the core. What industrial design form that will take is \u201cstill being determined\u201d, but Ive\u2019s team has exemplary pedigree \u2014 some of his new crew worked alongside him on iPhone designs over the years.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"a-device-revolution-to-come-3\">A device revolution to come?<\/h2>\n<p>Ive\u2019s project won\u2019t be the first to try to make a bespoke, built-for-purpose AI hardware design. But early forays into the market have been mixed at best.<\/p>\n<p>The Rabbit R1 released earlier this year, and charmed with its cutesy phone-like design. But its actual usefulness, swapping out traditional apps for generative AI responses, proved clunky.
