Dear ATTA Community,

I am writing to express our deep dismay regarding the recent actions of the US Government, particularly the impending dismantling of aid programs. We object to this “America First” philosophy and want to make our position clear: the ATTA is HUMANITY first.

These actions have directly impacted our organization, as we had multiple tourism projects with USAID support around the world lined up for 2025. These projects would have increased economic security, supported indigenous and local people and enhanced cross-cultural relationships through the good work that the ATTA team and community do together. Unfortunately, due to this drastic action, it will now be impossible for us to carry out our work in some locations, unless new funding is found. We also are aware and very concerned how it is impacting many of our partners and members directly and indirectly.

We can appreciate, based on the shared values of our ATTA community, that we are all troubled by these recent developments beyond our control. What we are doing and will continue to do is voice our concerns to as many political leaders as we can reach, and turn our collective action and networks into finding new ways to ensure positive and impactful adventure tourism development continues.

We urge you to work with us as we seek to counter these forces with good work, love, and determination. Together, as a global community we can create a more just and equitable world for all.

Sincerely,

Shannon Stowell
And on behalf of the ATTA Team and Board

ATTA Members, please join us on The HUB to continue this conversation. Share your thoughts, concerns, and support with the community.
