‘Hollow’: Belmont Cameli Joins Sydney Sweeney as Brom Bones
Belmont Cameli spent this year playing a college hockey player on Prime Video. His next job is Brom Bones. Cameli joins Sydney Sweeney in Hollow, Sony’s reimagining of Washington Irving’s Sleepy Hollow story, with Deadline breaking the casting on Thursday.
Sweeney plays Katrina Van Tassel, and the entire design of the film is that Katrina is the one carrying the story. It is billed as positioning her “not as a romantic prize, but as the central figure in a dangerous mystery and seductive supernatural love triangle.” Brom, in Irving, is the local strongman who almost certainly put on the Headless Horseman costume to run his rival out of the valley, and who definitely ends up with Katrina. Told from her side, that stops reading as a prank.
Cameli Already Has One Horror Credit
Cameli played Abe in David F. Sandberg‘s Until Dawn, the 2025 adaptation that threw out the game’s branching-slasher structure in favor of a night that keeps resetting with a different monster each loop. Sandberg walked iHorror through that decision when it opened. Before that he was Jamie Spano in the Saved by the Bell revival and Eli in Netflix’s Along for the Ride, with a part in The Alto Knights last year and this year’s Off Campus, where he plays Garrett Graham.
Katrina Has Had a Thin Time of It On Screen
Christina Ricci played Katrina in Tim Burton’s 1999 Sleepy Hollow as a pale presence at the edge of Ichabod Crane’s investigation. The Fox series that ran from 2013 to 2017 stranded its Katrina in purgatory for most of its first season and wrote her out by the end of the second. Handing her the investigation is a bigger swing than any adaptation has taken with her.
Sweeney has been assembling a horror shelf of her own, most visibly with 2024’s Immaculate, and Hollow moves her from that film’s convent to the gothic end of the genre.
Beer Is Adapting a Novel Nobody Has Read Yet
Lindsey Anderson Beer writes and directs, from her own debut novel, which Putnam does not publish until fall 2027. Sony won the adaptation rights in July out of a competitive situation, before the book existed in a bookstore. Beer directed Pet Sematary: Bloodlines for Paramount+ in 2023, and Deadline reported in June 2022 that she was attached to write and direct a Sleepy Hollow reboot at Paramount. Whether Hollow grew out of that project has not been stated by anyone involved.
LuckyChap produces alongside Beer and Sweeney’s Honey Trap banner, which has a first-look deal at Sony. No release date has been set, and nobody has been cast as Ichabod Crane, which is the announcement that will show how far Hollow intends to move from the Burton version.
