Sharjah Ruler approves Al Freish Lake plan in Kalba
Kalba is getting a new spot for leisurely strolls, family days out and plenty of fresh-air fun
HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has approved plans for a new vast lake project in Kalba: Al Freish Lake.
The new attraction includes stunning green mountains, cascading waterfalls and walking areas allowing visitors to explore the space from various spaces. The project adds to Sharjah’s growing plans to put Kalba firmly on the map as a family-friendly nature destination.
Here’s what we know about Al Freish Lake
The attraction will span 51,200 square metres, capable of storing up to 28 million gallons of water. Al Freish Lake will stretch approximately 750 metres behind Al Marsh Square in Kalba.
There will be parking at ground level where visitors can park, allowing them to explore the attraction and Kalba’s mountains while on foot. The picturesque scene will be filled with trees, greenery and waterfalls, the kind of backdrop that will have your Instagram followers asking, “Wait, is this really Sharjah?”
During a phone interview aired on Sharjah Radio and Television in April 2026, the Ruler of Sharjah stated that the number of projects implemented in Kalba was a response to the people who were envious of the development projects completed in Khorfakkan. He responded that work would begin the very next day, and he remained true to his promise.
No completion date for this project has been announced; however, in May 2026, Al Qasimi did state that the inauguration of several projects in Kalba will be in December.
The Sharjah Ruler added, “For the past seven years, we have been working without stopping to develop the city of Kalba. We have completed, thanks be to God, beautiful projects, and we will, God willing, inaugurate Jebel Deem with its roads, landscaping, and rest area next December, as the month of December will witness many openings.”
During the same phone interview, the Ruler concluded his remarks by saying, “We are also working on completing the Al Furaish Lake project behind Al Murash Square, which is approximately 750 meters long. It will be an enjoyable park for children, similar to the Al Rafisah Dam project. Trees are currently being planted on the mountain in this area, and waterfalls among them flow into the sea. People will be able to park their cars, walk, and enjoy this place. Thanks be to God, we have accomplished a great deal in the city of Kalba, and the government buildings have become architectural masterpieces.”

And we can expect even more news from Al Kalba as the Ruler of Sharjah also added, “We assure the people of Kalba that the opening of these projects is not the end, and that we will continue to open them until the end of the year, God willing. We assure them of stability, comfort, and services of all kinds, including sewage and rainwater drainage. God willing, these projects will bring lasting joy to the people of Kalba. The town is beautiful and enables us to complete these development and recreational projects.”
