Dubai Fountain show suspended until further notice
Planning a trip to Dubai Mall? You may want to rethink your fountain stop for now.
If you’re heading to Dubai Mall to catch the Dubai Fountain show, take note that the show has been suspended until further notice.
The popular Dubai Mall attraction has been put on pause following the passing of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum this week. Dubai Media Office confirmed that Dubai would enter 10 days of mourning from Monday, September 21, with flags flying at half-mast.
No date has been revealed for when the popular Downtown Dubai attraction will resume its shows, but it is most likely to be after the 10-day mourning period has passed. We will need to stay tuned to official announcements for an update.
This isn’t the first time the Burj Lake has fallen silent. Last year, the Dubai Fountain paused its popular shows for five months for upgrades. The fountain has since undergone a major renovation, including a new water-resistant floor, waterproofing, insulation and glowing blue tiles. The lake, which spans the equivalent of 18 football fields, is maintained with underwater robots and regular water-quality testing. Phase One of the renovation is now complete, with more creative features and technology planned for Phase Two in 2026, although no updates have been revealed yet.
Tributes
Yesterday, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, shared a heartfelt tribute to his brother.
In a thoughtful statement shared on X, Sheikh Mohammed wrote:
“May God have mercy on Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum… May God have mercy on you, my brother… You have settled with a Generous and Great Lord… You are absent from our eyes but not from our prayers and hearts, O Ahmed.
“May God make you dwell in the vast expanses of His Paradise… and inspire us and your loved ones with patience and solace… And to God we belong, and to Him we shall return.”
Leaders across the UAE took to social media on Monday to pay tribute to Sheikh Ahmed, who served as the Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and was also Group Chairman of A.R.M Holding, a UAE-based private investment firm, per Gulf Business.
